Baruntse & Mera Peak Expedition 2011 Part 1

Image from Google Introduction This blog is to mark the expedition to climb Mera Peak and Baruntse and all the events that subsequently unfolded. Since making a crazy return from the Himalayas on the 17 th November, the last few weeks have been nothing short of hectic. I have struggled to completely piece this blog together, since how do explain the euphoria of reaching a summit such as Baruntse, or even Mera Peak and the Amphu Labtsa, when I can’t totally understand the feelings myself. Ironically, I found writing the

Puurs World Cup 2011

Image from Google My second lead world cup of 2011 has finished, and I made a big step up  from the first one which was in Chamonix back in July. The biggest thing between Chamonix and Puurs was my training. When I competed in Chamonix, I hadnt been training lead because I was focused on Bouldering. I still [...]

Two videos from Ethan Pringle

Image from Google As already reported, Ethan Pringle has had a good stint in Rocklands this summer. He has agreed to an interview, and as soon as I get the answers you will be able to read all about it. Not sure when that is though (Ethan?). Until then, here are a couple of videos of Ethan doing hard classic stuff. In the first one, he does Sky, 8B+, and although the quality is a bit on the poor side, it's rather obvious it's a very cool problem. The same, minus the poor quality, is also true for the second...

Summernight Horizon

Last night Octavio and I enjoyed another night of musical mastery by Anathema. The gig actually had 2 bands scheduled for the night, the first one was Anneke van Giersbergens solo project Agua de Annique, of which we havent heard any material before but we certainly were very pleased with the quality of their music. [...]

Thoughts on Expedition Impossible

Image from Google I didn't really have the opportunity to share my thoughts following last weeks premiere of the new ABC reality television show Expedition Impossible . Prior to its debut, I had been writing about the program with some regularity, and even posted videos from the start. Before seeing the show, I noted that it appeared to be a mix of adventure racing and the show The Amazing Race . That description holds up to a certain extent, although Expedition Impossible charts its own course as well, sometimes for the

Enzo Oddo repeats Aubade direct, ~9a+

Enzo Oddo, 16, has made the first repeat of Aubade direct, ~9a/+, at Sainte-Victoire in southern France. The route was put up by Gérôme Pouvreau last fall. This was Enzo's second of the grade, the first one being the slightly more famous Biographie at Céüse. On his blog, Enzo says he has no doubts about this one being 9a+, and adds that he has spent several sessions on it before doing any moves. The route can be described as an 8c+, then a not so comfortable rest and then a fingery ~7C+/8Aish...

Posted By Liv Sansoz the 2011-05-12 A few days ago, I met up with the Mountain Academy team for a wonderful climbing trip in the Vercors, a beautiful massif South of Grenoble. The Mountain Academy has been set up by Jerome Blanc-Gras and Mountain Hardwear. The idea was to gathered passionated climbers from all over Europe who wants to share their passion and learn more about climbing, ice climbing and mountaineering. Among all the climbers who submitted, nine were selected to be in part of the team. And

How Internet Video is Transforming Climbing

Image from Google In my previous post, I suggested that Adam Ondra's recent run of 9b ascents and 8c+ onsights marked a kind of watershed moment in climbing. But I don't think that Ondra is the only one transforming climbing. There is also a collective transformation that has been underway in the sport for several decades, a transformation that has been accelerated by the power of the Internet. This transformation has to do with the transmission and distribution of images of climbers and climbs and is present in both a ...

Adayak Gift Certificate Giveaway!

It's time for another round of giveaways here at the Adventure Blog, and this time I've got a couple of $25 gift certificates for Adayak.com , a website that has some very cool organic t-shirts with an outdoor adventure theme, that I'm sure you're going to love. The shirts have great prints for your favorite activity, whether it's camping, climbing, hiking, or whatever, and they look equally good on the trail as they do around town. As usual, I try to make entering any contest as simple as I can, and this
