Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to spend some time in very beautiful tropical conditions. The Antarctic skiers can only dream about the warmth of the Caribbean at this point however, as many have now been out on the ice for more than a month, and while the weather has improved, it is still plenty cold and challenging at the bottom of the world. It's been awhile since I posted an update on the Pole2Pole Expedition , during which explorer Johan Ernst Nilson is traveling from the North to the South Pole using only non-motorized transportation. After a fairly short competition-career as an alpine and mogul skier, Johan has dedicated his outdoor life to the mountains of Sweden and northern Norway. His main interests these days include backcountry telemarking, hiking, caving, mountainbiking and indulging in the mysteries of snow and avalanches. This has led to ten years of work in the Ski Patrol in his hometown Hemavan, and a role in the local Mountain Rescue Unit. Johan is also a member in one of three National Cave Rescue Teams.
