Jordan Romero On Today Show

Image from Google Teen-age Seven Summiteer Jordan Romero appeared on the Today show this morning to talk about his recent climb of Mt. Vinson in Antarctica, and the successful completion of his goal to become the youngest person to climb the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. In case you missed the interview, you can watch it in the video below, where you'll see a remarkably mature and composed young man who has stayed focused on his dreams and has worked very hard to achieve them. In the interview, Jordan also

Antarctica 2011: Jordan In Low Camp On Vinson, Eyes Christmas Summit

Image from Google Just a quick update on Jordan Romero this morning, who is now in low camp on Mt. Vinson in Antarctica, where he is hoping to complete the last of his Seven Summit climbs. If successful, Jordan will become the youngest person to complete that feat at the age of 15. The current plan is for Jordan and his team, which consists of his father Paul and stepmother Karen, to move up to high camp tomorrow, where they'll rest, acclimatize, and prepare for a proposed summit bid on Christmas morning. You can follow ...

Antarctica 2011: Jordan Romero Is On His Way

Image from Google While the South Pole skiers struggle with their own demons, namely the bad weather and endless days on the ice, the climbers are now appearing in Antarctica in larger numbers, as they set off to climb Mt. Vinson and other nearby peaks. One of those climbers is of course Jordan Romero , the 15 year old mountaineer who is on the brink of becoming the youngest person to complete the Seven Summits. Yesterday, Jordan and his team (read: his dad and stepmom) left the U.S. for Punta Arenas Chile, where they'll

Jordan Romero Has Big Plans For 2011

Image from Google Last year, Jordan Romero grabbed headlines across the globe when he became the youngest person to summit Everest at the age of 13. This year he still has some lofty goals to accomplish with a busy schedule of climbs once again. Jordan has always said that he hoped to complete the Seven Summits , and in the process become the youngest person to do so. He's 14 now and has just one peak left on the list, which is Mt. Vinson in Antarctica. He plans to make his attempt on that mountain in December of 2011, ...

Outside's Top Ten Adventure Stories For 2010

Image from Google Yesterday we had an interesting little story on the Outside Blog that listed the Five Greatest Adventure Hoaxes of All Time . Today, they follow that up with their selection for the ten biggest stories in adventure for 2010. Unlike the list of hoaxes, I won't give them all away here, but suffice as to say, you can predict what a number of those stories will be. Amongst the big adventure news items that made the cut were Alex Honnold's various climbing efforts , which included a new speed record on a couple

Bouldering and Mount Everest

Image from Google I have been making the drive over to Estes pretty consistently over the past two weeks, putting in some serious effort on two or three hard problems. Pondering the somewhat absurd nature of the enterprise, I ran across this forum topic at 8a.nu, "What bouldering grade would you give Everest?" This led to me to consider the relative difficulty of, say, a V12 boulder problem in RMNP, compared to Mount Everest and the likelihood of my doing either. This was thrown into relief by the recent ascent by Jordan

Another Young Mountaineer Climbs For A Cause

Image from Google We've all marveled at the stories of Jordan Romero , who at the age of 13 became the youngest to summit Everest last month. Last week, Mountain Hardware introduced their newest, and youngest, sponsored athlete, in the form of 12-year old climber Matt Moniz. Even at that tender age, Matt has already managed to successfully summit Denali, Whitney, and Mt. Elbert, the tallest peak in the Rocky Mountains. Even more amazing, he did all three of those in just eight days! He has also been up Aconcagua, ...

National Geographic Adventure (and Me!) Present The Ultimate Adventurers of 2010

Image from Google National Geographic Adventure published an excellent piece today on today's Ultimate Adventurers . The story takes a look at the top accomplishments by adventurers in the first half of they year, and I'm thrilled by the story because I wrote it! :) The plan with the project was to shine a spotlight on some of the best stories from the world of adventure so far this year, and we came up with things such as Oh Eun Sun climbing Annapurna and become the first woman to summit all of the 8000 meter peaks. We ...
