With Scotland being hammered by the usual January gales and rain, I’ve been directing my climbing attentions over Christmas to a sustained attack on the fantastic TCA bouldering centre in Glasgow. I climbed a mountain of fantastic problems and definitely feel stronger for it, especially on big moves. There’s a lot of climbing space there and there are no shortage of leaps and jumps between the holds (some performance related comments on this over on my other blog ). An uninterrupted spell of good ...

An Italian design firm called LEAPfactory has unveiled a new conceptual design for a portable pod that would give high altitude mountaineers a more robust structure to live in while on long expeditions. The so called LEAP Pod would reportedly provide all the comforts of home, while also going easy on the environment. According to the designers, the pod would be delivered to base camp on a mountain via helicopter, and would offer living quarters, a sleeping space, bathrooms, and plenty of storage for gear.

Posted By Steve Mc Clure the 2011-08-16 Borre handed me another beer. The main dude behind the Norwegian Rockmaster. The second event, in 2010, had been a good one. "Steve, how can we make the competition even better?" I thought for a minute. "You want something that stands out from the crowds? The way to go is DWS!" A year later and I'm back. There have been a lot of emails and phone calls as we put together a plan; rules, wall design, timings. But I can take no credit for this, the endless enthusiasm and

The Bottom of Terminal Twilight looked like a river, which seemed to put an premature end to my plan of flashing the beautiful “Dusk Till Dawn”, an E8 established last year by Dave Pickford. Hopeful that the slimy torrent was simply the result of rain before my arrival, I asked Dave about his experience on the route, only to find out he had been forced to wait until late summer for the beginning to dry in order to make his ascent. Merde! Dusk Till Dawn (traverse in from the above the orange thread on

Rightsizing your business is one of the most important decisions you can make. Just because youre thriving at one scale doesnt mean that a little more effort or a little more investment magically take you to the next. They probably dont. ~ Seth Godin, An atomic theory of business size

Not sure how I missed this story a few weeks back, but I stumbled across it last night while researching another story. According to the Telegraph , a team of Chinese scientists are preparing to launch a new search for a mythical ape-like creature known locally as the Yeren, which seems to be a distant cousin to the Yeti of the Himalaya or North America's Sasquatch. The researchers are seeking volunteers and funding to launch this latest expedition to go in search of the elusive creature which has had more

It was early season at Lovers Leap. Memorial Day meant snow was still on the ground and the trail contained more water than dirt. While approaching the climbs, I made big strides between slippery granite river rocks. My feet never slipped and I was very impressed with my footwear. In my opinion, the real place where [...]

Four more new arrivals in our shop today: First off is Ron Fawcett’s story of his life of climbing. One of the first true ‘rock athletes’. Ron was one of the first climbers to embrace modern athleticism in climbing. He was one of the first to understand the enjoyment of sport climbing, and harness it as a tool to make a game changing leap forward in trad climbing standard. Needless to say the legacy of his climbs are still slapping the strong and bold of today - Careless Torque (Highball Font 8a),
