Fall in Yosemite: Blind Faith and the Rostrum

As you can likely tell, posts have been few and far between this fall. Two months of splitter weather have resulted in oodles of time outside in Yosemite. Lizzy has been running  up a storm and I have been keeping busy climbing. The big plan for this fall was Astroman and come September I was [...]

Running Stuff, Lizzy Hawker by Stevie G.L.F Haston

Image from Google Just read that Lizzy Hawker is going to do the Great Himalayan trail, wish I was going it looks Brill! At about 1,700km, its long, had a peak at there web site and I have been in about half of it, looks like a great adventure for Lizzy and wish her luck. Lizzy won the Mont Blanc trail in september, and followed it a month later with a 24hr record of 247km. Cheered me up thinking about her great form and this majestic run that traverses Nepal from one end to the other. I don't have a photo of Lizzy ...

Girl Power + Baked Goods = Clyde Minaret

Labor Day weekend was coming up and it was long past time for a Lizzy and SK adventure. We had been wanting to do a nice long Sierra alpine route together and, after discussing our options, we decided on Clyde Minaret. The Southeast Face of Clyde Minaret (5.8 IV) is one of the 50 Classic [...]

Luke and Lizzy Do The Matthes Crest

Image from Google Being a climber in NorCal in the summer is much better than being in SoCal, and this is because we have easier access to alpine climbing in the Sierra. The long days mean lots of daylight in which to climb and its great to get out in the cooler, high-elevation air of the Sierra during [...]

Upcoming Sweet Gear Reviews

Image from Google The rainy winter and spring have given way to a beautiful summer. All of a sudden things started getting warm, which means more time outside for Lizzy and I. This also means we have more opportunities to play with gear! I was excited when I heard La Sportiva was making a new approach shoe, the [...]

Squamish in Photos!

Image from Google Lizzy covered most of the details of our recent trip to Squamish in an earlier post. I wanted to add some photos since Lizzy was awesome and took a lot of good shots! During our trip to Squamish I was still a bit tired from my trip up Half Dome, the weekend before, but was [...]

Lizzy Goes to Africa

Image from Google Over the past few years Lizzy has been lucky enough to travel and examine old interesting rocks in different places around the world.  She’s spent time in Death Valley, Bishop, Hawaii, Western Australia and now South Africa. Despite all the time spent looking at rocks these trips usually dont include any climbing. So no side [...]

Competition Update!

The Mammut Gravity Brawl in New Jersey and the Bouldering World Cup in Vail have come and gone and the flood gates have opened for videos from every problem and every angle. I just so happened to shoot some busch league , voyeuristic style footage of a few of the problems at each events finals so take it for what it is... I did not place well during prelims at Mammut but I was able to finagle my way in front of the crowd to shoot some highlights. The men's problems seemed really hard. Most guys sent men's

No, seriously. There is. I'm not pulling your leg. I'd been told that bouldering in Leavenworth, WA is no fun until you're at about V4. I've heard it's punishing, hard, and was looked on with skepticism from my bouldering friends when I announced that I was going to start bouldering up there a few weeks ago. Alas -- finding regular climbing partners has been a bit less predictable lately, so I've wanted to get used to the idea of climbing activities I can do solo with relative safety, and bouldering is my
