Busy day on Lochnagar

Looking towards Cuidhe Crom and Meikle Pap from the Glen Muick approach to Lochnagar. Still great cover from the valley. Higher up the wind began to blow again from the South-West transporting more snow into the corrie. Looking down the valley that leads to Glas-alt-Shiel on Loch Muick. Still heavy going on foot. Lots of people out today enjoying the full winter conditions.....climbing, walking, ski touring and snowshoeing. The Glen Muick car park was full today. Skiing round the edge of the corrie we met


Heavy snow in Glen Muick

Hard work today even on ski today to reach the profile site above Loch Muick. In the picture below Alan is actually standing on fresh avalanche debris at about 500 metres. Unusual to have avalanche activity this low down. Skis off and "foot penetration" was immediately 60 centimetres. This data is recorded daily by the observers. As can be seen by the trees in the background this was not up high! Heavy snow fell as the profile was prepared. Lots of deep fresh snow can clearly be seen.


Creag an Dubh Loch

It was a relief to see the lower temperatures today and signs that the rapid thaw of recent days is slowing down. Walked up from Glas-alt-Shiel lodge on Loch Muick to Creag a' Ghlas-uillt on the White Mounth. It would have been possible to ski from above the waterfall less than a kilometre from Glas-allt-Shiel.
