Shortly after midday the Corrie of Lochnagar from the col by Meikle Pap. Quite a bit more snow on the apron directly below the crag than there has been recently. Looking onto Eagle Ridge (centre) with Parallel A and B to the right. Not much evidence of ice buiding up. The temperature at the profie site at 900 metres today was plus 2 and cooling is forecast. Distant view to the North-West. Good cover high up on Ben Avon. Tap Test at the main profile site for the day. Easterly aspect. Significant amount of

With in excess of fifty cars in the Glen Muick car park I expected at least somebody to be in the corrie. There was no one but there was a lot of firm neve. The photo foreground shows the first aid box and avalanche probes that are left permanently in the corrie and maintained by Braemar Mountain Rescue. Main wide gully is The Black Spout. Looking directly up Parallel Gully A. The entire contents of recent weeks are now deposited below it, debris about 20m wide and extending well down towards the loch. ...

Another cold and windy day on Lochnagar. Judging by the mild forecast it could be the last cold one for a while! Photo below is looking west into The Black Spout in the corrie of Lochnagar. Exposed ridges not holding much snow. "Tap Test" (TT on snow profile) being carried out at main profie site for the day. Meikle Pap in background.

Walking up the track from Glen Muick towards Lochnagar.....wishing we had taken skis! Probably possible to ski from about 1km above the woods towards the col between Little Pap and Cuidhe Crom. The blue sky on the picture below was the only blue we saw after leaving the valley. Taken from the col by Meikle Pap the West ridge of Lochnagar appears briefly. This was the best visibiity we had and it only lasted a couple of minutes. We had hoped to post some better pictures of the cliffs today. The main profie

Setting off from Ballater it was a cold, clear and frosty morning. By the Col beside Meikle Pap it had clouded over but it was good to see the dusting of fresh snow above. The cloud hung around the upper half of the cliff. Sad to see the ice pitch at the start of Parallel A is no longer complete. Over on West gully the first pitch remains but on closer inspection it may prove fragile and partially detached. Walking back down the track to Glen Muick I met a local snowboarder with plans for The Black Spout.

Looking towards Cuidhe Crom and Meikle Pap from the Glen Muick approach to Lochnagar. Still great cover from the valley. Higher up the wind began to blow again from the South-West transporting more snow into the corrie. Looking down the valley that leads to Glas-alt-Shiel on Loch Muick. Still heavy going on foot. Lots of people out today enjoying the full winter conditions.....climbing, walking, ski touring and snowshoeing. The Glen Muick car park was full today. Skiing round the edge of the corrie we met

Waking in Ballater to low cloud and heavy rain our expectations for the day were not great. The rain had stopped by the time we left the car park in Glen Muick. We skied from the car. Once off the track and heading towards the col by Meikle Pap the wind started to blow. Quite a few photos today; their main theme is "snow transportation". The West wind howled over the ridge as we skinned south towards Cuidhe Crom for the snow profile. Higher on the ridge looking due South. The sun reflects off the bare ...

Headed up to try to see Lochnagar today but by the time we got to the coll, the snow storm had started. Plenty of fresh snow and Southerly winds above 600m. Underfoot conditions are pretty poor, even on skis. 10 points to the pair who managed to walk all the way to the top of the land rover track before giving up!
