Dare To Dream

Image from Google After the mad rush prior to Christmas to send out all necessary mail before the festive period, Christmas and New Year were actually very good and almost relaxing with a trip to the Peak District in hurricane force winds on Christmas Day. New Year brought to a close the eventful and successful year of 2011, which included a Scottish winter , climbing in Kyrgyzstan upon Peak Lenin subsequently learning many lessons, and closing with the Baruntse and Mera Peak expedition . These were the big milestones of

K2 Winter Update: Off To Skardu By Bus

Image from Google The all-star team of Russian climbers who will take on K2 this winter, have started the second leg of their journey. After arriving in Pakistan last weekend, they've been busy organizing their gear and planning the logistics of the expedition. After completing that process, they have now shipped their gear to Skardu, which serves as the gateway to the Karakoram, and they had hoped to hop a flight to that city as well. But weather delays have grounded air travel in the region, so they've elected to go by

Mescalito goes free…?

Image from Google I climb for the long, difficult journeys that have little chance of success but teach me the most. I climb to be in the environment that makes me feel like anything is possible. I climb to push myself to the limit of my physical and mental abilities, so that I can discover what I am [...] Mescalito goes free? is a post from: Rock Climbing UK , an online UK climbing magazine, written BY UK climbers FOR UK climbers. The Microadventures With A Dash Of Science

Image from Google Now, with only 3 days to go until I leave for Nepal; and with everything such as packing, acquiring medicine, filling out visa forms and even cleaning my boots still dirty from Lenin, still to do, I used some intuition and decided to utilise some precious time writing another truly outstanding blog. I then scrapped that idea and wrote the one below instead. Since the expedition to Lenin, fortunately I have managed to regroup, and now partly understand the reasons why the expedition wasn’t as successful

Ripping the Flake for Arcteryx

Image from Google By Will Stanhope Two months ago I ripped off the flake on Parthian Shot, at Burbage South in the Peak District. Tim Emmett, trusted friend and well-known British climber, belayed me, and eventually piggy-backed me down the trail. Thanks to everyone who lent a hand that evening- I really do appreciate it. I had spent a few days on the gritstone previously and was eager to try a real 'hard grit' line. And Parthian didn't disappoint. Incredible movement on a wild prow, very physical and delicate at the same

Nice run

Took my camera along for yesterday’s run. I went up the Loch Treig Munros - Stob Coire Scriodan, Meall Garbh and Chno Dearg. Mega boulder to come back to! Peculiarly perched boulder. Didn’t understand the physics of this. Another snow shower sweeps across Loch Treig Looking east from Meall Garbh Binnien Shuas appears out of the clouds. Time to jog down for a bowl of soup.. Michael Hoffman

Bio Michael Hoffmann Born in 1955 in Anachronist. (He still climbs really well for his age) Michael started climbing and mountaineering in 1972, originally as an act of self-searching and emancipation. However, the profound passion lasted and should later become his "way of life" – a path, a rope – to guide his small ship of physical and spiritual being through the rough ocean of the so-called reality. Certified as a UIAA Mountain Guide in 1982 and a University Master of Geology in 1985. Michael ...

Bouldering Competitions: Does Size Matter?

Image from Google The big show in town this weekend is the ABS National Bouldering competition, being held at a dedicated location, not at any of the gyms in town. John Stack and a crew have been working very hard to get the new walls up, a glimpse of which is available at Jamie Emerson's site. It sounds like it will be a good time though I will most likely not be there. You can check out the comp live online at the UBC site. I have already discussed the problem of getting the general public interested in climbing ...
