This avalanche was on a North aspect at 555 metres. From the evidence of the footsteps to the left it looks like it was triggered and happened yesterday.


A nice day at last

It feels like a while since we have had a nice clear day like today, here are some pictures. Looking over towards Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Dearg. I reakon that ice climbing conditions high on the Ben would have been great today. Some cracking appearing by my footsteps on on a small test slope. Avalanche on NW aspect

This recent avalanche debris ran from windy col all the way down and across the corrie floor, a total length of 500 metres. Few people were in the N Corries today. Most were on ski's or snow shoes.


Avalanche day

Six separate avalanches were noted today on Westerly and North-West aspects. One was triggered on the Chais Headwall . There has been a lot of drifting and new windslab is overlying the soft snow from yesterday. This is making the snowpack very unstable and the picture below demonstrates the windslab failing on isolation on the soft snow beneath . Drifting on across the Chais ridge on a strong Easterly wind.
