Rob Gowler called in from High Camp. They are taking a rest day today which will set them up for a summit day tomorrow weather permitting. Everyone was well and Erin was cooking up another round of hash browns when the call came in.
Forrest called in from 7800'. Everyone was well, but they were waiting for the fog to lift and a freeze to set in before moving to basecamp. Hopefully they will be moving again tonight. We'll keep you posted when we hear.
Standing by, Colby

Here's a picture Guide Beth Cleary took of Wagner's team when Beth was descending from Denali a few days ago... It can get pretty warm in the cook tents. These pointy tents were made by our Operations Manager and guide Rob Gowler. Team members dig down into the snow and the tent is set up like a circus tent with one pole in the middle. Benches are cut out of the snow. It can be quite cozy in there. Members of Forest Wagner's 6/20 expedition...taken at 14K camp on 7/1/11. Boots in the cook tent. ...

Rob Gowler 6/27 just phoned in to say they are at the 14,200 foot camp. They are going to cache gear at 16,800 today and come back down to sleep at 14,200. He said that Vernovage's IMG/AMS 6/22 and Wagner's 6/20 teams left for the summit at 8:30 AM. Rob said it was a beautiful day up there today. 14,200 foot camp with Foraker (17,400ft) in view. AMS climbers practicing clipping in and out of a fixed line before heading up to the 16,200 ridge. You can see the route, with climbers, in the background. Just

We bid adieu to our Operations Manager and Lead Guide, Rob Gowler as well as our Intern Erin Pollock and Guide Joey McBrayer (his third expedition this season) for the 6/27 Gowler Expedition. They had a one day weather delay but were able to practice their skills here in town and will be that much ahead when they hit the glacier. The final West Buttress team of the season: Guide Rob Gowler, Anastasia, Ian, Amy, Duncan, Intern Erin Pollock, Ed and kneeling in front, Ed's son Tim and Guide Joey McBrayer. ...

Rob Gowler showing off his pin cushion wrist band Rob inspects his work; he sews these kitchen tents for use in the mountains. After a hole is dug in the snow, a single pole is used in the center, like a circus tent, to create a sheltered cooking area. I overheard the guides saying how they wanted certain colored ones for their expeditions. I'm sure they are going to attract a lot of attention on the mountain. ~blogger laura

Rob Gowler phoned in from 17K at 10:00 am. They are leaving their happy home of the last nine days for lower elevations and thicker air. They should arrive at base camp (7,200 ft) by Sunday morning for their flight out (weather permitting.) Currently it is snowing lightly at both 17 and 14K. Let's hope for flyable weather tomorrow. BTW, AMS guide Melis Coady and a team last year set the record for most days at high camp (ten) but that isn't really a record you want to beat.

It is a "splitter" day! That is climber-speak for clear and perfect! It is the first clear day we've had for a very long time. You might call it "bluebird". Rob Gowler sent us a quick message to let us know they are on their way up from 17-camp to make their summit attempt! We'll keep you posted... ~Blogger Julia
