Bouldering in Rumney, New Hampshire

I recently got back from climbing in New England for a week with the LT11 crew and we had a blast.  It was great to get outside and climb on real rock for a change, pulling on plastic can get old pretty fast.  I have always wanted to try the ...

Trip Planning & Weather

Image from Google So Sunday is the start of our week long family vacation. We'll be going to New Hampshire to climb at Pawtuckaway (bouldering) and then on to Rumney for some sport climbing and bouldering (at the Black Jack boulders) when needed. We're hoping to get in a bit of roped climbing but since it's just the two of us plus the kids, we expect that we'll be limited. I'm even excited to get Ryder (our 4 year old) up a pitch of superslab that I recall seeing on a previous trip. We'll see how that works out (best laid

Jaws 2 by Woods

Daniel Woods has brought his bouldering skills to the routes. After, the Nor'easter Fest, he stayed on the east coast and headed to Rumney to try Vasya Vorotnikov's Jaws 2, aka "broken jaws", on the Waimea wall. The conditions weren't great but Daniel still made good progress, and a few days ago he told me he felt it was most likely 9a or so. Basically two hard boulder sections, which aren't too bad if you're in good bouldering form. As it turned out, he reconsidered this opinion after...

Change...

"The only constant in life is change." Some good advise my father instilled in me at an early age. I recently had some plans change and now I find myself back in CT for about a month. I am excited to be here since it was unexpected. Hopefully the weather will stay perfect for climbing. So far the weather has been great. After a few nice days in Rumney I meet up with a friend yesterday at Bradley in my beautiful state of Connecticut. Knowing that climbing at Bradley is kind of a sensitive issue I'll say ...

Two videos I plan on not watching

This entry is about two climbing videos that I plan on never seeing. This may sound strange but I think it's worth exploring what I mean. The first will be video of the Right Graham Arete in Boulder Canyon, a cool little granite egg buried in the trees adjacent to Boulder Creek. Except that there are a few less trees than there used to be. Jackie Hueftle, climber, writer and route-setter, sent me some photos of the destruction of several small but sizeable trees near the boulder, an act that appeared ...
