Hey Everyone! I'm happy to say that on March 23, 24, and 25, I will be at Mesa Rim Climbing and Fitness Center with Angie Payne, Daniel Woods, and Ethan Pringle! Aside from being great friends, this is a class act gathering of athletes who are all super stoked to work and climb with the community in Southern California. On Friday night, we will be helping out with a fundraiser for Outdoor Outreach. On Saturday, from 10am-4pm, we will be running a Youth Clinic. On Sunday, from 10am-4pm, we will be running

Peter Minks otherwise known as Minks, died of cancer on the 7th. He was one of the reasons I fell in love with the North Wales crew and had such a ball in the late 70’s. As a climber he had nimble feet and was Whillans like in his physique, he did the second solo of the Walker back in the day and was very proficient at all parts of the game. The game of course wasn’t just climbing it was about fun and carousing. I can think of alotta his mates dropping a tear into a pint or ten. He and I did a very ...

Mild weather and thick ice welcomed more than 3,000 climbers from around the world to the 17th Annual Ouray Ice Festival this weekend at the Ouray Ice Park in southwest Colorado. An early season of cold nights and warm afternoons created ideal ice conditions in the park's flooded box canyon, which set the stage for the festival's Elite Mixed Climbing Competition. Nathan Kutcher, in his first appearance at the festival, took home the championship title, beating the only other competitor to top out, Andres

The big winter climbs that I've been covering, even before they've gotten underway, are both ramping up nicely and getting ready to commence. Considering the first full day of winter is tomorrow, the climbers are all in the final stages of preparation and are preparing to let the action begin. First up, the Russian K2 team took just two days to reach Skardu, arriving there on Saturday. Since then, they've been busy getting their gear prepped for the climb and packing it for transport to Base Camp. Most of

Climbing conditions are building quite nicely on the Ben at the moment. Here you can see a fair bit of ice about on the Trident Buttresses, with Mega Route X already looking in better nick that it did throughout last winter. A fair bit of snow in Coire ne Ciste. By the time this picture was taken (Friday) it had consolidated due to some milder conditions on Thursday. However, there has also been some avalanche activity earlier in the week , with evidence of slides from below Glovers Chimney, below Green

Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to spend some time in very beautiful tropical conditions. The Antarctic skiers can only dream about the warmth of the Caribbean at this point however, as many have now been out on the ice for more than a month, and while the weather has improved, it is still plenty cold and challenging at the bottom of the world. Australians Cas and Jonesy returned to the trail over the weekend after spending a few rest days in the tent. Both are nursing injuries of one sort or ...

Today Plas Y Brenin were running the Big Acoustic Walk so I took a team up Snowdon. I've not much to say about today other then it was absolutely perfect weather, a cloudless sky, wall to wall sunshine and a nice cool breeze. Obviously being a Saturday we weren't alone on the mountain, it seemed like everyone wanted the view we got. The team made it up and down in a great time which meant time for tea and cake in the cafe before heading back for drinks in the bar and live music. Unfortunately I could join
