S lovenian climbers made the first ascent of a major summit in the Western Kokshaal-too of Kyrgyzstan this season. Pik Byeliy (5697m) was the highest unclimbed peak in the Western Kokshaal-too and has been the objective of many expeditions to the area over the past decade. The Western Kokshaal-too forms part of the Tien Shan range along the border of China and Kyrgyzstan. Americans Jerry Dodrill, Mike Libecki, Doug and Jed Workman made the first major attempt at Peak Byeliy in 2000 from the southwest ridge

Slovenians Nejc Marcic and Luka Strazar climbed a new route on K7 West (6858m) in the Charakusa Valley, Pakistan. The duo completed the alpine-style ascent of Dreamers of Golden Caves (VI A2 M5, 1600m) in four days, between September 6 and 9. This likely marks the second route to reach the summit and the third ascent overall of K7 West. The peak's climbing history began in 1982, when a Japanese team attempted K7 West via the west ridge. They left behind bolts, pins, fixed-cable ladders and an unclimbed ...

Chuck Fryberger's latest film is premiering at the Boulder Theater tonight so I thought I would give a quick review of it. I have been a big fan of his previous films, Pure and Core, films which garnered mixed reviews from audiences owing in part to Chuck's willingness to experiment with locations, filming techniques, and offbeat themes. With The Scene, those concerns can be set aside. Beautiful camera work, check. Hard routes and problems, check. Interviews with climbing stars, check. But aside from Dave

Stage 5 of the 2011 Tour de France was an undulating affair, with the riders rolling over 165.5km (102.2 miles) of open road between Carhaix and Cap Fréhel in Brittany. While the stage was marked with a series of rolling hills, there were no serious climbs, leaving the sprinters to duel it out for points and the eventual stage win. That stage in went to Mark Cavendish of HTC-Highroad who blasted past a group of Green Jersey contenders to nab his first stage win of the year. For Cavendish, the win will ...

We are thrilled that 'The Pinnacle' was awarded the Best Climbing Film Award at 5th International Mountain Film Festival Domžale. 'The Pinnacle' was up against some great climbing films from Slovenia, the UK and around the world. The film jury said this about the film: "The winner of the Climbing Award shows that the spirit of climbing can best be expressed through a compliment, repeating routes done 50 years ago and appreciating that despite advances in equipment and technique, the challenge remains the
