New route in Peak Cavern

Pitch 1 (wet 7c+) of Ring of Fire during the first ascent in Peak Cavern. All pics Triple Echo Productions. The other shoot I just finished with Triple Echo for the BBC was even weirder than the Handa adventure! The director Richard Else managed to get special permission to climb in the show cave Peak Cavern near Castleton right in the middle of the Peak District. The idea was for myself and Alan Cassidy to see if we could find a route out of it! Peak Cavern, otherwise known as 'The Devil's Arse' is one of

Ripping the Flake for Arcteryx

Image from Google By Will Stanhope Two months ago I ripped off the flake on Parthian Shot, at Burbage South in the Peak District. Tim Emmett, trusted friend and well-known British climber, belayed me, and eventually piggy-backed me down the trail. Thanks to everyone who lent a hand that evening- I really do appreciate it. I had spent a few days on the gritstone previously and was eager to try a real 'hard grit' line. And Parthian didn't disappoint. Incredible movement on a wild prow, very physical and delicate at the same

Muy Caliente E10 - Flash, so close...

Image from Google Whilst it might have seemed to many people that I had dropped off the face of the earth (and I would probably include some of my sponsors, friends and family in those people), I was simply taking a step away from what I knew, and wondering how differently things would appear from another viewpoint. Jacob Schroedel I knew that things would change, they had to - the trouble was I just didn’t know quite how. I wanted to better myself by training my weaknesses, but knew that since my strengths lay in trad,

New wall in Oban

Checking the new climbs at Atlantis, Oban Had a fun day working in Oban setting problems at the new bouldering wall in Oban at the Atlantis centre . The wall was built by the hard work machine that is Scott Muir and his company Dream Climbing Walls . He’s the only man I know that could give Tim Emmett a run for his money in terms of sheer overflow of physical energy. Modern climbing walls still amaze me - they are so good! It’s great how an intricate design of tapering or expanding shapes influence the

Dave MacLeod & Tim Emmett climbing sea cliffs in Pembroke, UK

Image from Google This past fall, Black Diamond athletes Dave Macleod and Tim Emmett ventured to the ultra-scenic crags of Pembroke, South Wales, a place known not only for its bold, beautiful lines on striking seaside cliffs, but for its notoriously finicky conditions that can make redpointing an exercise in extreme patience. Author: Black Diamond Equipment Climber: Dave MacLeod [...]

Video: Climbing with Emmett in Pembroke by BD

Nice little video from Black Diamond of myself and Tim Emmett climbing in Pembroke last autumn. I just finished writing a little story about the trip which will be up on BD’s site here later. Helmcken Falls Wrap Up: WI3+ routes etc.

Image from Google On Saturday EJ and I returned from Helmcken Falls. Tim Emmett had to head out a day early due to slideshow obligations in the UK, but we all had at the climbing there for another few days. The stoke level is high! Tim wrapped in from the lip of the falls to see if the "ice" on the headwall was climbable. This year it isn't, mostly snow, but I've seen photos from years where it is. EJ and I bolted sideways for another 30 feet on the headwall before the spray pattern changed, and we had to bail before ...

Climbing in Pembrokeshire

Image from Google Until recently, apart from watching thrilling ascents by Tim Emmett up terrifying looking routes, I knew very little about climbing in Pembrokeshire. I was approached a few weeks ago by a charming lady who owns some rental accommodation down there. She told me that she would like to offer her accommodation to the climbing community [...] Climbing in Pembrokeshire is a post from: Rock Climbing UK , an online UK climbing magazine, written BY UK climbers FOR UK climbers. What's going on?

Image from Google Having written off this winter due primarily to injury but also imminent arrival of our new baby daughter I told myself I would try not to get too envious of what everyone else might be doing up north. That's been tested this last week with a tidal wave of impressive ascents. InesPapert is back in Scotland with her friend Charly Fritzer and she's quickly amassing a telling ticklist; warming up on Daddy Longlegs VIII,9, following Charly up the second ascent of the very steep To Those Who Wait IX,9, climbing
