Image from Google We pride ourselves on the highly skilled instructors at AMS and are always happy to share their achievements when they aren't guiding and teaching for us. Tom Bol, instructor for our Denali Photography Workshop just released his first book: Adventure Sports Photography Creating~ Dramatic Images in Wild Places . It is chock full of awesome images including one of Colby Coombs (pg. 180) and one taken during our Photo Workshop (pg. 129) as well as clear instruction on how to get these great shots. This could

The British Invasion

Last weekend I had the chance to take out the UK's current rock stars, Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker, to a place in the desert which boasts a very high concentration of sandstone roof crack routes and boulder problems. The climbs vary from thin fingers to massive off-widths and can be up to 50 meters long! Needless to say, they were very excited to get the tour and I was excited to take them back to my old stomping grounds and to a left over project or two. Tom and Pete (aka the "Wideboyz") had just come

One Man Epic: On An Egyptian Adventure

Image from Google In 2010, we followed Australian adventurer Tom Smitheringale on a solo attempt to reach the North Pole, a journey during which he suffered frostbite while struggling with the grueling demands of the arctic. Now, Tom has traded in those frigid conditions for a decidedly warmer adventure, this time taking on the Sahara Desert in Egypt. A few days ago, Tom set out on a 2500km (1553 mile) journey that begins with him paddling the length of the Nile River, starting at the border of Egypt and the Sudan and ...

Wide Boys Hit America: Pete Whittaker and Tom Randall

Pete Whittaker and Tom Randall have been training hard in a dank cellar in Sheffield for several months and are now jetting off to America to find and climb some very wide cracks. "The part of the trip I'm most apprehensive about is trying Lucille in Vedauwoo (it's such a hugely significant route) or realising that I've actually booked our flights for the wrong country and we're off to Yemen." commented Tom.

'Wide Boyz' - A Crazy New Climbing Film (Due 2012)

We've been working on a new film which will be out next year featuring Peter Whittaker and Thomas Randall. The last time Pete featured in a Hot Aches film (Committed Vol II) he produced some of the craziest climbing I've ever seen. Pete Whittaker on the first ascent of 'Dynamics of Change' E9. Subscribe to our YouTube channel for all the latest climbing videos. Over the last couple of years Pete and Tom have been on a mission to climb the worlds hardest offwidth cracks. This mission is culminating in a two

Adam Campbell Knee Knacker Race Report

Image from Google Four of us are standing around, knee deep in the chilly northern Pacific Ocean, trying desperately to offset and numb the pain in our legs. We can barely feel the crushed rocks and shells under our feet. Salt is crusted on our faces and jerseys, we all look a dazed, squinting into the sun thats bathing the cove, as our bodies struggle to come back into balance. Were mumbling inanely, wrestling with our incoherent and tired thoughts, but happy to no longer be trapped in our internal monologue. We chatter

New Font 8A+ on Yorkshire Grit by Tom Peckitt

Tom Peckitt has added another hard problem to Yorkshire Gritstone with an ascent of Toe-Fu at Simon's Seat. Walking up to the crag in summer heat yesterday, Tom wasn't full of hope for succeeding on the problem...

Video: Tom O'Halloran repeats The Singularity 32/8b+

While yesterday may have seemed like any other ordinary Tuesday, it wasn't. It was a special day. It was the day Tom O'Halloran snagged the first repeat of my 2009 route, The Singularity . This route at my local crag took me 18 days and 67 attempts and I really poured my life into it for several months. It certainly has special meaning for me and is still the hardest route I have ever done. The route suited Tom perfectly given his strength in crimpy bouldering. The video doesn't really do justice to how

arial photos from yesterday 6/6/2011

Image from Google Here is a photo that Leighan's dad, Tom, took from his Piper Super Cub yesterday around 2pm. "Climbers on 6 June, 11, about 2 PM, two groups of six nearing Denali Pass. The two lower climbers appear to be descending. From the other side I did not yet see any climbers further than Denali Pass." Here's another photo that Tom took, also about 2PM. For sure there are several AMS tents and walls in this photo. Not sure which ones, but the walls are looking pretty tight. I just got a text from Leighan's team.
