Plans, Scams, and this Blog, Stevie Gollb Haston.

Image from Google New year full of promise, but empty purse, replete with woe. I want to do some good stuff this year, it doesn’t have to be earth shattering, but it either has to be magical, or majorly monstrous, but always memorial. Bearing this all in mind and the empty purse, one would at first think this is all impossible, but the first step was yesterday. Let me explain. Yesterday I had a little run, I mean little really, it was 5kms! I have been injured since last October, a bad tear in my calf, anyway I been ...

Kalymnos 2011 - Trip Report 9 (Odyssey & Goat's Bitchin')

Time is ticking by and when you hit day five of climbing and realise there's only five climbing days to go it's panic mode! Ahh, cobras! ODYSSEY You guys know all about Odyssey now. You don't need me to tell you that it is the single most varied and diverse crag at Kalymnos and hosts the biggest grade range of any sector (3s to 9s). Could this be why it draws the climbing celebrities? Recognise this guy? Yep, none other than climbing superstar Iker Pou . Rumour has it that he has been sent here on a secret

Urban Dictionary Definition – MountainSexual

Image from Google Yep, the urban dictionary has defined us... MountainSexual Similar to metrosexual, but one who lives in the mountains or otherwise pursues the outdoors adventure lifestyle. Kind of a cleaned-up granola, a woodsy GQ kinda' guy with a s...

Kalymnos 2011 - Trip Report 4 (Grande Grotta and Arhi)

Hey y'all! Let's get into the pics. Day five of climbing was in the mighty Grande Grotta and surrounds. This massive cave is the most famous sector on the island. Kurt's been experimenting with the GoPro capturing footage while climbing. I've often thought of headcam shots as "vomit footage" because the camera is swinging around wildly, but he's captured a few cool short grabs which I will certainly try to get into the trip video. This is a newish route in the Grande Grotta called Happy Girlfriend. It ...

Gear Box: Camelbak Marathoner Hydration Vest

Image from Google It has been a very long, very hot summer in Texas. Today will actually be our 90th day of the year in which temperatures will top 100ºF/39ºC. While that record heat hasn't deterred me from my regularly scheduled runs, it has reminded me of the importance of staying hydrated while out in the sun and recently I've been using a new hydration vest from Camelbak to do just that. Yep! You read that right. Not a hydration pack, but a hydration vest . The new Marathoner was designed from the ground up to be the

Video: Fun In Chamonix

Image from Google How's this for a fun – not to mention busy– day. The video below was shot in Chamonix, France, which is considered one of the truly great outdoor playgrounds in Europe, if not the world. In the video, climber Colin Haley manages to not only hit the slopes for some skiing, but also some ice climbing, and later in the day bouldering. Yep, that's right, everything you see Colin doing in the video was all done on the same day. Maybe it'll give you some inspiration on what to do this weekend! Enjoy! Colin

Team BMC Cycling Adds The God of Thunder To The Roster

The Tour de France may be over for another year, but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of cycling news to talk about. While teams gear up for the USA Pro Cycling Challenge in a few weeks, they are also re-configuring themselves to get better in the future. Two days ago we received word that Australian rider Stuart O'Grady was leaving Team Leopard Trek to join the all Aussie squad of GreenEdge, which is forming up for next season. Today we get even bigger news, when it was announced that Team BMC had ...

Christian Maurer wins Red Bull X-Alps 2011

While I've been mostly occupied with the Raid the North Extreme this week, another event was taking place in Europe that is definitely worth a mention as well. That's where the Red Bull X-Alps 2011 was taking place, which is a very unique race that is a demanding test of endurance, skill, and nerve as well. For those who haven't heard of it before, and I'm one of them, the X-Alps is an event that pits endurance athletes on a non-stop race through the Alps, starting in Salzburg, Austria and ending in ...

Mid life crisis number 329, by Stevie ‘over ripe’ Haston

Image from Google Add caption There was a bit too much trash in my bachelor flat, and it was starting to smell a bit, so I very sensibly thought I’d take the trash out. Well a few days later when I finally did take the trash out it was raining, so I got the turn-ups of my trousers wet, as I wore slippers instead of shoes, and my bare bake got an unexpected wash, which admittedly was a plus. Anyway, thinking about what a tosser I was, I then for no accountable reason threw my keys with the trash into the recycling bin. ...

Petzl Grigri 2 Recalled For Failure of Braking System

Yep, that might be a problem. Petzls second generation of its very cool belay device, the Grigri 2, is being recalled due to the possibility of damage to its braking system, potentially leading to uncontrolled descents. Unlike a traditional belay device, which is a manual system, the Grigri moderates travel of your climbing rope through [...]
