For only the second time in my life, I got up too early Saturday morning and caught a plane (which left two hours late for a one hour flight)from Denver to Salt Lake City. A quick bus ride into town (no expense account for a taxi) left me blinking in the bright sun outside the Salt Palace, a sprawling building surrounded by vendor tents and athletic people on cell phones. With no time to waste, I picked up my media badge and strode in, more or less beelining it to the climbing ghetto in the farthest corner

On May 18, I was invited as a guest of Team Radioshack to watch the exciting finish to Stage 4 of the Tour of California in San Jose, CA. Having missed the Tour of California coming through my home town of Santa Rosa for the past few years, I was stoked to go check it out, especially from a booth right next to the finish line! Through my work with PCI , I am constantly comparing climbing to other sports in respect to their events, presentation, organization, fans, sponsors, athletes, and history. This day

Posted By Liv Sansoz the 2011-03-28 La version franaise juste aprs ;) I'm currently traveling in the United States. I first flew to Las Vegas, to take part in the Red Rock Rendezvous , one of the biggest climbing festival in the USA. I have always loved climbing at the Red Rocks and this event was the perfect pretext to come back and climb on this amazing and unique sandstone. Furthermore, it was a great opportunity to meet up with friends from all over the places. Basically, the RRR allow people to take

NB: This article used to live in the articles section of my old site. I’ve reposted it here since it was really popular. Note that it’s nearly ten years old now! Background Sport climbing is the branch of rock climbing involving routes protected by pre-placed anchor bolts. The explosion in popularity of sport climbing and organised competitions have prompted a significant rise in participation and standards in recent decades. The focus of this new discipline is the athletic and competitive aspects of

I just finished four days of reporting for the Outdoor Retailer Show Daily, the daily newspaper of the trade show. It's a hard but fun gig that I've done two summers now, and a fresh way to participate in a show I've been visiting for well over a decade. This was the 10th anniversary of the tornado that struck downtown Salt Lake City during the trade show's set-up day, killing one person, injuring dozens, and wiping out more than 300 exhibitors' booths, including the one I was helping to set up for Rock &

Tuesday morning feels like eons ago -- it's been a long two days of hiking around the Salt Palace here in Salt Lake City, full of meetings, events, hugs in the hallways, and spending time with friends. Here are the very, very best of what I've seen in the first two days. I have a long list of "honorable mentions," which I'll write about down the road. This is just the cream of the crop. Most of these products are previews -- products in development for release in Spring 2010. When a product is available
