Through the whole move

I’ve just spent the week staying with family in Glasgow and visiting the fantastic new TCA bouldering centre as often as muscles allow. It’s obviously a bit different from most bouldering facilities, being the biggest in the UK, and this brings many new benefits for training, as well as some new ptifalls. Some observations on these: The first observation I made which was very heartening, was the notable absence of people complaining about being too short, or the moves being too reachy. Obviously, part

Is winter back?

Image from Google Yesterday wasn't feeling very wintry, however today was a different story! Stephen, Andy and I headed into Glencoe and ascended the Zig-zags on Gearr Aonach. The snow line was about half way through the route but it was all slushy and wet so we were able to make a rapid ascent. It was a good option today as it remained pretty sheltered from the westerly winds, sleet and snow. It was Andy's first time out in the mountains so we wanted to give him a little variety in terms of something hands on but also give

Wet and Wild

Image from Google Today I was out with Stephen, Kate and Dexter who were super keen for a day out in some pretty foul weather. The aim of the day was to brush up on Stephen and Kate's navigation whilst Dexter ran around in circles and got under our feet (yes, Dexter is a dog). As the forecast was for high winds and gusts up too 100mph we stayed low and headed up behind Fort William. From the view point we headed south east up on to point 287m revisiting the basics of navigation and developing strategies that will work in

A full day at work

Image from Google Today I joined day 3 for a Rock Improver's course as it was multi pitch day for my clients Chris and Tye. We headed down to Tremadog and I led them up Christmas Curry and Rio. They were both building belays and getting themselves ready for two days of leading routes themselves. It was an overcast day but fortunately it never rained. When we got back to PYB I took the whole group into the bouldering wall for a technique coaching session, looking at improving their technique and movement. After dinner I had

Intro to Navigation

Image from Google Today was Day 1 on a Complete Navigation course. I met up with the group who all have little or no map and compass skills so we had lots to get on with. From the centre we headed out south into the forest. Here the group were introduced to basic navigation skills and techniques. We worked our way over the road and headed up to Crimpiau summit for some great views down Ogwen valley and over to Snowdon, before heading back to the centre. After a talk with the group about mountain weather I headed down to the

JIBS Competition Follow up

This Saturday's bouldering comp at PRG Valley meant one very important thing to those of us who weren't competing in the competition - most of the routes on the bouldering wall were new (great route setting, Dino). The Junior Indoor Bouldering Series Championships were held on Saturday at PRG Valley. Results came in from the championship with Ashima Shiraishi taking first for the 11 and under girls, Megan Mascarenas in the 12-14 girls, and Molly A. Gaynor in the 15 + girls. Boys results and all ...

What’s your Climb for Change story?

Image from Google Im pretty darn blissed from my early start to climbing season hit the bouldering wall last week and then snuck in a way better than expected day out at Vantage on Saturday but now Im entirely too fried to sit at the computer any longer today!  So, rather than half-heartedly type up a trip report [...]
