Headed out early this morning down to Ogwen. When I pulled up in the car park at 6.30am it was 11 degrees which did not bode well. Really low cloud cover (from Ogwen cottage!) and drizzle. I headed up Y Gribin ridge with Holly the Collie, snow cover started from the 'football pitch' area but was wet & sporadic. I thought that higher up on the ridge the snow would be more consolidated but was wrong, snow was wet, turf was unfrozen & any ice whch had been forming was melting fast. Even on the Glyder Plateau

I sneaked off this afternoon to hit the cromlech boulders. Think that if I hit them early enough then they wouldnt be that busy. As I arrived the sun was beating down and a nice cooling breeze was sweeping over the rock. However in the car park there was a familiar van parked up, in [...]

Waking in Ballater to low cloud and heavy rain our expectations for the day were not great. The rain had stopped by the time we left the car park in Glen Muick. We skied from the car. Once off the track and heading towards the col by Meikle Pap the wind started to blow. Quite a few photos today; their main theme is "snow transportation". The West wind howled over the ridge as we skinned south towards Cuidhe Crom for the snow profile. Higher on the ridge looking due South. The sun reflects off the bare ...

Photos courtesy of Zac Poulton, James Morrison and Mark Scales Scottish winter kit So having just returned from my first Scottish winter, I thought now would be a good time to share the experience. It’s hard to know where to start, as packing my bags for the trip seems a lifetime ago. I guess a good place is in fact the packing. So having seen the kit list from AP, and confident I had most of the kit; I set about the challenge of packing all the kit into two bags. This went strangely to plan, and left me

Hey Andy Thought I'd send over this conditions report. I hope it's useful. Picture 1: Cwm Idwal from Sub Cneifion rib . Nothing at all in Cwm Idwal, the only ice we could see was the top pitch of The Devils Appendix. Picture 2: Clogwyn Du from the base of Tower Slabs. 3 or 4 teams on it at about 3:30. 3 people were on Clogwyn Left Hand, seemed to be hanging around on pitch 2 or 3 for a while, can't have been in too good condition, it was relatively warm, about +4 in the car park so I assume it was still

As part of our in-house training, all of our Sales Staff spent a full day on the factory floor learning more about the production techniques and technical data involved in the manufacture of DMM Hardware. Fortunately for us, the logistics are pretty simple as it's just a short walk across the car park from the sales office to the factory!

A new footpath is to be built between the Pen y Gwryd Hotel and the extremely busy Pen y Pass carpark at the head of the Llanberis Pass.
The car park at Pen y Pass provides the closest parking to the summit of Snowdon and is often completely full. The alternative parking close to the Pen y Gwryd hotel is also extremely popular, and many hill-goers walk along the road from Pen y Pass to get back to their cars.

On a recent trip into the Cairngorms I had a quite unexpected complete loss of all psyche. We headed off into Coire an Lochain the evening before, excited about the day of climbing ahead and camped overnight. When I woke it was like waking up with a hangover and thinking ‘did I actually agree to this?’ - climbing was the last thing I wanted to do right then. Perhaps it was the poor sleep (we were traveling light so didn’t have any room for comfort), maybe the length of sleep (we’d sat up watching

The Grey Mare’s Tail in Dumfries and Galloway sits at an altitude of 250m and is further South than Berwick-upon-Tweed. I’ve never had the opportunity to go, and until now had never seen a photo of it. This was taken back in January this year so obviously it would be in great conditions, but a climb like this you wouldn’t expect in this country let alone at that altitude. Oh and it’s a roadside crag too - the photo’s taken from next to the car park. Needless to say it’s apparently rammed the

Posted By Steve Mc Clure the 2010-05-14 There is list of thing climbers should do (in my opinion), and its a long list. Climb in Yosemite , sport climb in Spain and Ceuse, stuff in Verdon and Pembroke, go to Stanage. Treck in Nepal , do some stuff in the Alps ; it goes on. But multi pitching in Riglos is something I have been meaning to do for a long time. And at last I got the chance, with sport climbing in Rodellar totally out due to consistent rain and seepage (its wet beyond belief if you are ...
