I’m back home from a couple of good days with the Mountain Equipment team in Manchester. I was speaking in lecture at the ME store talking about trying to arrive at a confident state for heading back up to Orkney again for sessions on my project. To help with that I finally got a nice day to head out with Anna and do some tradding. This is the difficulty in Scotland sometimes - Although I feel quite fit now from Steall and board sessions, there’s no substitute for going out and leading a lot of long

Seven of Nine V14 I still can’t believe the Sky Pilot project went down last night! I was buzzing so much I was unable to go to bed until 5 am, and lay wide-eyed until Freida burst into life at 7. The crucial difference after all those sessions? Several small but crucial ones. First, I had genuinely detached myself from expectation of success. When it’s at your limit, time and time again this seems to be crucial for realising true focus of energy at the right moment, free of interference from the ...

O, inventors, who are we to say your idea wont take flight? Genius is so often sparked with the catalyst of madness, and skeptics are sometimes shown the door. Lets consider the Street Flyer, then. Its a three-wheeled cycle designed to provide its user with the sense of flying just about three feet off the [...]

from Weekend Sherpa - Get outdoors in the Bay Area
Not all history lessons are about memorizing dates. Head outside and learn a thing or two about the Bay Areas storied past. No pop quizzes! Jail Birds and Prison Plants Take a walk on Alcatrazs wild side: Escape the crowds and head for the Agave Trail, only open for a few months every autumn and winter between bird nesting seasons. The trail just opened last weekend, making now a good time to go on a leisurely half-mile stroll that offers superb southerly views of San Francisco and has many points of ...

After a few days of feeling a bit flat on the boulders, I needed to make a change. I decided a new hair cut was in order. This proved to be the recipe I needed. My next day back on the boulders I finished off my mini project, Catalyst V14. After leaving Crumbly, happy to be finished with Catalyst, I realized if I headed back home I would get caught in Sydney rush hour traffic. I decided to grab bite to eat at a near by cafe and head back to Crumbly. After coke and vegemite cheese roll I was back to Crumbly

Todays edition of Steps to the Summit , which as always comes to us courtesy of Expedition Hanesbrands , discusses the one ingredient that is needed to live a life of adventure, at least according to expedition leader Jamie Clarke. That ingredient is passion . Jamie says that passion is the fuel for our drive to accomplish a goal, whether that is climbing a mountain or something else entirely. He says, and I agree with him, that people who are passionate about their pursuits don't need inspiration, as they

I was listening to an interesting discussion by a bunch of neuroscientists as they talked through some fictional stories about afterlives and how consideration of the idea of an afterlife causes us to see some interesting perspectives on real life. One brought up a film called ‘Afterlife’ where people were asked to think back on their life to a favourite moment or memory, which they would then be allowed to take with them to the afterlife and could live in their favourite moment forever more. All very

Since the MSMD DVD came out I've been asked a lot about my solo of Fast Furious and in particular why I did it. At the time I was really pushing myself regardless of the fact I had a girlfriend at the time, I thought being with someone would've slowed me down but it acted as a catalyst to drive me harder. I knew there was no future for us but at the same time I knew the inevitable split was going to hurt. The best way I could handle this was to hide my pain under the dark but comfortable and familiar quilt
