We were fortunate to chase summer south last week, spending much of it in Red Rocks, and the weekend in Indian Creek. As rock climbers we long for the good weather to last year round, but reality dictates most of us stay grounded in one spot year round.

Four of us are standing around, knee deep in the chilly northern Pacific Ocean, trying desperately to offset and numb the pain in our legs. We can barely feel the crushed rocks and shells under our feet. Salt is crusted on our faces and jerseys, we all look a dazed, squinting into the sun thats bathing the cove, as our bodies struggle to come back into balance. Were mumbling inanely, wrestling with our incoherent and tired thoughts, but happy to no longer be trapped in our internal monologue. We chatter

Today brings a much deserved respite from the road for the riders in this year's Tour de France . The 2011 race has been plagued with crashes, leaving many of the cyclists bruised and battered, while the Pyrenees sapped their strength over the weekend. While the past few days in the mountains were good sparring sessions between the GC contenders, we've now come out of the first big mountain stages with more questions than answers. The two weekend stages didn't bring any changes to the chase for the Yellow

From Brian Vernon, bike photographer extraordinaire:
Like with most jobs, what Im working on now I cant share for a few months, until respective brands have their way with the select images. So for now, a glimpse of the chase. Lots of Pacific Ocean in this shoot. How many roads offer epic winding climbs ascending [...]

It was a very rough day in the Alps for the riders in the 2010 Tour de France , who got their first real taste of the mountains today, when they faced a 204.5 km (127 mile) stage that wound from Morzine-Avoriaz to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, crossing over multiple mountain passes, including two Category 1 and a Beyond Category climb, in the process. The stage ended with a blistering downhill run that took skill and courage to fly to the finish line. The winner of today's stage was Sandy Casar who was part of

The 2010 Tour Divide is still in full swing, but it appears that we have our first rider to cross the finish line today, with former champ Matthew Lee claiming victory once again. The details are still a bit sketchy at this point, and the Tour's blog is still being updated, but it seems that Lee reached Antelope Wells, NM sometime this morning. The Tour Divide is the longest mountain bike race in the world, beginning in Banff, Alberta, Canada and running the length of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route ,

Hanesbrands expedition leader Jaime Clarke has another important message for us today, as we take another step to the summit . This time out, we're talking about "bad weather", which can come in both the literal and figurative sense when you're climbing a mountain or chasing after some other goal. In the literal sense, bad weather is the high winds, cold, and rain or snow that plaques us when we're making a climb, but probably even more challenging is the bad weather in the figurative sense. That comes ...

Iain starting pitch one of Faith Healer and discovering a hidden layer of ice on all the slabby bits out of shot. This week I had a couple of days that illustrated how tenuous the chase for conditions in Scotland can be. I had spent the last few weeks reading about everyone elses adventures only for thaws to set in on my days off. I was beginning to feel I was training for nothing. Eventually after many many phone calls I lined up 2 sets of partners for a 2 day trip. Day 1 involved a ridiculously early ...
