An Italian design firm called LEAPfactory has unveiled a new conceptual design for a portable pod that would give high altitude mountaineers a more robust structure to live in while on long expeditions. The so called LEAP Pod would reportedly provide all the comforts of home, while also going easy on the environment. According to the designers, the pod would be delivered to base camp on a mountain via helicopter, and would offer living quarters, a sleeping space, bathrooms, and plenty of storage for gear.

At the end of last week, the climbing teams in the Himalaya seemed poised to take advantage of a favorable weather pattern to make summit bids early this week. In fact, a number of them had planned on standing on top of their respective mountains today, but that weather pattern shifted, preventing any serious summit attempts. Now, most of the climbers are simply hoping that they'll get another chance before the season ends. Weather forecasts last week seemed to indicate that a front would move through the

Over the weekend most of the climbing teams arrived in Everest Base Camp on the South Side of the mountain. Most enjoyed a bit of down time upon arrival, giving their bodies a chance to rest and become accustomed to the altitude. BC is located at about 5364 meters (17,600 ft), which is an impressive altitude for non-climbers, but just the tip of the iceberg for those hoping to go up Everest. As I mentioned last Friday, the route through the Khumbu Icefall has been completed, but the ropes weren't fixed up

Here it is folks, the final instalment of our Chad Expedition Reports. This time Renan Ozturk takes us on a journey up the Arch of Ba-Chikele - the most impressive and delicate rock formation any of us had ever seen! I'm a little sad the reports have come to an end; it has been fun to share it with you all, and in a small way it was like being back there again, staring out into the unknown, wondering what magnificent route lay just around the corner. But fear not, as the Camp4 team are working day and ...

Here we go folks! The Spring Season on Everest and the rest of the Himalaya is upon us. I've been hearing from a few climbers over the past few days that Kathmandu is getting even more hectic and busier than usual, as the climbing teams heading to the big peaks this spring start to arrive en masse. Something that is confirmed by our friend Alan Arnette today, who has posted another update to his excellent Everest 2010 Blog . Alan actually has two great articles for us today, the first being a report on the

A very fine day today on Ben Nevis. Climbing teams out on Centurion, N.E. Buttress, Raeburns Route on the First Platform, Observatory Ridge and Tower Ridge, to name but a few. Plenty of good ridge walking on the CMD Arete. We just managed to get over the top of the light cloud and were rewarded with a 'Brocken Spectre' A good sign of settled weather.

Prue Hodgson of the 3 Peaks 3 Weeks Mountaineering Team calls in an altitude update after climbing the Barranco Breakfast Wall. The climbing teams SAT phone signal is a bit funky as the last call in was a wash. You missed a bit of traditional singing as that was about all we could make out.
