10 of the best Long runs, by Stevie Slow Haston.

Keywords:
Mountain, runner, km, tenth, race, one, gi, start, miler, ultra

Image from Google Got alotta letters asking about great runs, and rather than keep wasting my time replying, and changing my opinion, I thought I’d set it in stone. There are many great runs, but there is only one that rules them, but more of that later. First this planet of ours is still incredible in its beauty and diversity, so we should as citizens of the world, take notice, take part, and do our best to keep at least. some corners of it immaculate, as mountain runners I hope we do that, and don’t drop those little

Whiteout conditions above 700m

The cloud level was low today so here is a view as we peered out through the clouds of the ski area and Loch Morlich White out at 1000m, drifting snow built up to 3cm within half an hour.

Gear Box: Keen Howser Wool Shoes

Image from Google Keen has built a reputation for creating comfortable and versatile shoes for hiking, paddling, cycling, and more. But their most comfortable shoes of all are reserved for the end of the day, when you're finished playing on the trail, and you're ready to kick back, take it easy, and lounge around a bit. When that moment comes, you'll want to slip your feet into a pair of Howser Wool slippers . Billed as a "sleeping bag for your feet," the Howser Wools are lined with super-soft microfleece that is both ...

Lots of Snow in the West.

Looking South along the East face of Aonach Mor today. The routes Left Twin and Morwand finish up the snowcrest catching the sunshine the in the middle distance. It started off a lovely day today. We were up on Aonach Mor and, for me a least, it was the first day up there this season with good visibility. I took this opportunity to have a good look around. For this time of year there is loads of snow about, most of which has been blown in on a Westerly wind. As you would expect there is some pretty ...

Baruntse & Mera Peak Expedition 2011 Part 1

Image from Google Introduction This blog is to mark the expedition to climb Mera Peak and Baruntse and all the events that subsequently unfolded. Since making a crazy return from the Himalayas on the 17 th November, the last few weeks have been nothing short of hectic. I have struggled to completely piece this blog together, since how do explain the euphoria of reaching a summit such as Baruntse, or even Mera Peak and the Amphu Labtsa, when I can’t totally understand the feelings myself. Ironically, I found writing the

Celebrating the All Blacks win - a trip to the foothills of South Island and missed opportunities

Image from Google Aoraki is a breathtaking sight when it shrugs off its habitual cloak of cloud. I went hunting for my old pictures of the Kiwi icon after the All Blacks satisfying win in the World Cup final. I loved New Zealand...

Man Floats Over Alps Using Helium Balloons

Image from Google Remember Jonathan Trappe? He's the guy who flew across the English Channel last year in a lawn chair that was lifted by helium balloons. Well, according to this story , he's up to his old tricks, although this time he didn't simply float across a flat body of water, electing to attempt a crossing of the Alps instead. Using 54 balloons filled with helium, the 38-year old American set off from Gap, in southern France and took to the air on his unusual, yet daring, adventure. Reaching altitudes in excess ...

Bongo Bar, Norway.... or as I like to call it 'Um Bongo'!

I've just spent two weeks shooting stills and video for the Gore Tex Experiace Tour - Norway. The 'tour' gave two winner of a competition, Julia Snihur and Helena Robinson, the chance to climb and explore Arctic Norway with Dave MacLeod. Dave MacLeod, Helena Robinson, Julia Snihur below Blamman We were based at Ersfjorden (or as I like to call it Erik's Fjord) just 15min drive from Norway's northern city of Tromso. Tromso reminds me of a little of Inverness, its population is comparable, it's in the far

Reflections

Image from Google I'm finding it hard to finish off the writing about my flying trip from Vernon home. The basic reason is simple: A week after that trip my friend Stewart crashed his glider on Lady Mac as I watched impotently from 1,000 feet over his head. He would not likely have been there if I hadn't stated that I was going to walk up, and walked with him when he wanted to go. Stewart's now recovering, but the starting point for that recovery is a broken neck with currently serious spinal cord issues. The battle back is
