It has been nearly six years since I started writing this blog, and back in those early days I was still finding my voice and deciding what it exactly was that I wanted to write about. I knew that I loved travel and adventure, in all of its many forms, and I wanted to share that passion with anyone who might happen to wander by my little slice of the web. There were oh so many expeditions and travel options to be discovered along the way and continually came across a host of amazing things that I didn't

A Canadian man who has spent the last 11-years walking around the world, completed his march yesterday , arriving back home in Montreal. Over the course of his journey, he covered more than 75,500 km (46,913 miles) and burned through 54 pairs of shoes. The 56-year Jean Béliveau began his World Wide Walk back in August of 2000 as an attempt to not only circumnavigate the globe under his own power, but also promote peace and non-violence as a way of making the world a better place for children. His route

Many of you probably caught the episode of 60 Minutes over the weekend in which rock climber Alex Honnold was profiled. If you haven't seen it yet however, you'll find the video embedded below. Watching it Sunday evening, I thought that the piece was well done, gave viewers a good look at Alex and climbing culture, and was about as solid of a piece on climbing as you'll get from the mainstream media. Of course, it was also wonderfully shot by the gang over at Sender Films , and there is a second video, ...

Canyoneering is the term given to an outdoor activity that involves hiking, climbing, and scrambling through narrow, twisting canyons. It is a popular outdoor pursuit in places like Zion , Bryce Canyon , and Canyonlands National Parks here in the U.S. It also happens to be the subject of a new article from National Geographic as well, with author and climber Mark Jenkins traveling to Australia to experience the Aussie version of the sport. The article, which can be read in its entirety by clicking here ,

In terms of long distance trekking, the relatively newly established Great Himalayan Trail is tough to beat in terms of challenge and beauty. The GHT is made up of a collection of existing treks that have been linked together to make one massive hiking experience, and once it is completed, trail organizers hope that it will span Bhutan, Tibet, India, Nepal and Pakistan. For now however, the one section of the GHT that is officially open and accessible is the leg that runs across Nepal. That trail was ...

Posted By Steve Mc Clure the 2011-07-01 Climbers are an obsessed type of people. Wed climb every day if we could. Having a family pushes me into doing stuff that maybe I wouldnt otherwise do, like holidays to places where there is no climbing. This is no bad thing. There is way more to life than climbing, and actually Id probably be rather sad if at the end of my days all I can see over my years is a load of crimps and slopers. Anyway, we need the odd rest too. So I was more than pleased to be ...

The Eighth Parallel is a fantastic short film created by Darcy Turenne, who traveled to Bali and Java in Indonesia to interview a group of young women who are pursuing their passion for adventure sports. Amongst them are rock climbers, mountain bikers, surfers, and more, with each of them expressing what drew them to their particular sport and the obstacles they had to overcome to pursue these activities in a culture that doesn't see many women in that light. The Adventure Journal has an interview with ...
