The Maltese Islands are a very short hop for Brits, or North Euros in general, and as a big plus, the flights are reasonable in price. For these two reasons alone Malta is worth thinking about for a week, or maybe two, a nice little break from rain. This small pocket sized guide book is a very convenient reference for climbing, deep water soloing, bouldering, hiking, and Diving. There is alotta climbing on Malta but with the addition of the other activities covered in this book, the place seems more ...

Last week I posted about a new set of videos from National Geographic Adventure called Fringe Elements which exhibit the adventure lifestyle by spotlighting some very cool outdoor activities. The videos covered everything from trail running and snowboarding to mountaineering and paddling, with the early entrants into the series showing tons of promise for what is to come. One of the videos features rock climber Matt Maddaloni free soloing some rock climbing routes, which can be a challenging and dangerous

While on a climbing trip to Mallorca, which mostly has been dedicated to deep water soloing, Caroline Ciavaldini ventured inland to sample the bolted climbs.
James Pearson: As time was short, we have both been onsight/flashing routes rather than working projects, which has allowed us to tick a whole load of super classic routes in all different styles. The highlight ascent of the trip was Caroline's onsight of Commando Madrid the most famous 8b on the island. She fought hard, dug deep and...

Most of this writing is wrong to some degrees, including my initial post . I've spent hours emailing and on the phone with everyone involved that I could contact: David Lama, Red Bull, the guides on the trip, the film makers, Rolo, and many others. I have yet to reach anyone who was on the cleanup crew despite ...

Deep Water Soloing in the Olympics is not something that had ever crossed my mind, but the more I think about the more it makes sense. As much as the IFSC is trying to push Sport climbing towards Olympic inclusion, the elephant in the room is that Sport climbing just isn’t as aesthetically pleasing for the non-participants as some other sports. I don’t think anybody can deny how awesome DWS is to watch. Visually the climbing would be unhindered by the regular pauses to clip-in, the climbers could be
