A big thaw

Image from Google I decided it was about time I tested out my ankle today as basically I couldn't wait any longer. It was drizzling on my journey down & as I headed towards Nant Peris with low cloud there was no sign of any snow! I had decided to head up to Cwm Glas with the possibility of a forray on Sargeant's Gully ice if it was still climbable. Very low cloud meant that I couldn't look up from the pass into Cwm Glas so had no idea how extensive the overnight thaw had been. Craig y Rhaeadr has been fairly stripped back &

There’s nothing worse than moany blogs and I do try not to post too often about the many many failures I have trying to make Scottish new routes come into existence. But as Claire and I agreed the other day (day 4 of sitting in the car watching the horizontal rain), people often don’t know what goes into opening new hard trad routes in the mountains. I’ve been to the

Adam Campbell Wins Knee Knacker Trail Race

A Race Report from Adam Campbell Like most newcomers to Vancouver, I have always been amazed how the North Shore mountains rise out of the Pacific and form an imposing, yet spectacular wall behind Vancouver's downtown core of glass buildings. The (in)famous trails that scar the slopes of the peaks have gained an international reputation and have redefined what is possible on mountain bikes, with steep, gnarly trails and the mountains have become the playground of many an outdoor athlete across the seasons.

While the arctic explorers are finding it tough going thus far, they are finding inspiration in small victories, as they begin to hit their first milestones on their journey to stand at the top of the world. First up, we have news that Amelia Russell and Dan Darley hit the 84º line over the weekend, marking the completion of their first degree on the long journey to 90-North! They have set a goal to reach the Pole in 45 days, and are hopeful that they can accomplish that task, but know they have a long

Outdoor gear roundup

Here are a few of the hot deals and gear tidbits that hit my inbox this week: Much to the dismay of my credit card bill, Mountain Hardwear's Women's Nitrous Jacket has hit the market and is available from Altrec.com and REI.com among other retailers. I've been in lust with this puffy ever since seeing an early announcement from my buddies at Mountain Hardwear. Lovely quilting, 800-fill down, EcoSensor Ripstop body using recycled polyester... Mmmmmmm... beloved blue puffy is on its last legs, after all...
