Winter Climb Update: Progress On K2 and Nanga Parbat

Image from Google The winter attempt on Denali may be over for Lonnie Dupre , who was picked-up from Base Camp on Monday, but in the Karakoram, things are just getting started. Several teams have now settled into place and are working their routes in hopes of success during the coldest, harshest season of them all. On K2, the Russians are methodically sticking to their plan, and going about their work, in a professional and straightforward fashion. The weather has been less than cooperative so far, but that was to be ...

Video: Gold Rush Mother Lode Adventure Race 2011

Image from Google This past September, the Gold Rush Mother Lode Adventure Race took place in California. Over the course of three days, some of the best teams in North America challenged one another in an epic clash on foot, mountain bike, and kayak. What exactly did that race look like? Check out the excellent video below for an idea. It'll also serve as a nice sneak peak for the race, which will return in August of 2012.

Arnaud's E10

Excellent video below of Arnaud Petit climbing Black Bean (8b) at Ceuse on trad gear to give an E10 7a. What a lovely looking route. I was wondering if there would ever be a movement towards doing some harder trad on the big famous limestone cliffs in Europe. Toni Arbones always told me that folk told him he was crazy for trying it on Montsant etc. The next level I guess would be to do something like this as a a first ascent of a new line at a high grade without any bolts being in place. I reckon somebody

Excellent video from Arnoud Petit

Image from Google This video of Arnoud Petit making the first traditional ascent (FTA?) of The black bean, 8b, in the Biographie sector at Céüse, France. It's also the perfect illustration to why it's so much more difficult to climb 8b trad compared to 8b sport, especially so when there are only 9 possible spots for gear in 65 meters, and most of them are dubious. To call this a traditional ascent is perhaps wrong, as there is nothing traditional about placing cams and nuts in limestone rock... Be it how it...

Change of scenery

Image from Google My trip to Colorado in now over and I’m on my way to South Africa. I’m really satisfied with what I managed to climb in Colorado, especially since the weather was really bad at first. Climbing Jade was my primary goal and after quickly dispatching it, I was able to focus on other things like making one of my best FA’s, Sunseeker and repeating classics. Check out this excellent video of Carlo Traversi doing the second ascent of Sunseeker at DeadpointMag.com. Nuthin' but sunshine, V13 My flight arrives

Underground paradise video

Here's an excellent video by Rouzeau Michaël showing Fred Moix doing the 3rd ascent of Underground paradise , 8B+, at Fionnay, Switzerland. Normally, Fred would be the one behind the camera as he's one of the best climbing photographers out there, but as you can see, he quite a decent boulderer as well!
