Kalymnos 2011 - Trip Report 10 (Kalydna, Iannis & Spartacus)

Keywords:
Bo, SPARTACUS, yo, Susy, nuts, Owen, hangers, anchors, 7b, Andy

Day seven of climbing. Perhaps the highlight day so far? I don't know, you be the judge. We started with a group vote on where we wanted to go for the final four climbing days of the trip. Plans were made, guidebooks were consulted, and dates were made with dogs that had been left behind at various cliffs to date. KALYDNA If you were playing along at home you know we went to Kalydna on day two . You'll also know that Owen, Andy and Susy found a friend for life in the 30m Nickel which is a 7a+ pitch which

Kalymnos 2011 - Trip Report 6 (Spartacus & Panorama)

The two final climbing days were upon us. Spartan Wall offered some new slabby warmups up to 35m in length, and Ruth and Dave decided to stay on here while the rest of the crew headed uphill to Spartacus. Ruth gingerly pads up a huge tongue of rock on Spartan Wall. Kurt bags Yo-Yo 6a+. A newie on Spartan Wall. An odd sight at the cliff! Spartacus hosts a great collection of routes in an orange bowl and our team ate them up. Harakiri 6b+, Tales Of Greek Heroes 6b+ and Les Amazones 6c were all dispatched as

World Climbing - Rock Odyssey, by Simon Carter

2009 was our first foray to the unknown delights of Vietnam and its limestone towers in Ha Long Bay. (You can find our 2009 trip reports and video here ). We had a stack of fun and I was particularly impressed by one limestone tower which had just two routes ( The Face 7b+ and License to Climb 7b). It was the most impressive and striking towers I'd seen in a bay which has over 2,000 limestone towers. After we left, I kept in the back of my mind the dream of establishing an extension to License to Climb ...

Koyamada climbs Daedalus, 8B+

While waiting for the temeratures to go down in Cresciano, so he can start making serious attempts on David graham's The story of two worlds, 8C, Dai koyamada is biding his time and keeping fit by escaping to higher ground at Sustenpass. His latest ascent was the first repeat of Martin Keller's Daedalus, 8B+, an extension to the classic Traumland, 8A. Meanwhile, Martin came even closer to doing his looong standing Highlander-project, an extension of Daedalus which he has been working on for a...

Sun, sea, speed boats and secret beaches – my last weekend in Sardinia. 2am was not a happy hour for waking up, and was even less happy when I walked out of my door to pouring rain and a flat battery in my car. With my brain still cloudy from sleep, I struggled to think how I would fix this problem and still catch my soon to depart flight, from Munich, two hours drive away. The garage was closed, I had no jump leads, and the airport shuttle had already left... things were not looking good. The €300 ...

The Quarry Man

Image from Google Posted By Steve Mc Clure the 2011-05-30 The Quarry Man This route is the stuff of legends! And climbed by the legend Johnny Dawes. Blasted into fame in the film Stone Monkey with a Zappa sound track that elevated the route above every other in the quarries. Even the simple name blatantly indicates that this isn’t just another slab or wall. This is THE masterpiece, climbing out from the biggest hole via the biggest challenges. I’ve wanted to try it for years, but it’s not something to casually walk up

Kyrgyzstan: Karakol and Arpa valleys

(Back to: Asia, Kyrgyzstan, Tien Shan, Torugart-too) Various peaks above the Karakol and Arpa valleys. By Mark Weeding, UK In July I returned to Kyrgyzstan for the third time, my main goal being to explore more of the Torugart-too and in particular to push further along the Fergana Range, an extension of the Torugart-too running [...]

WWF No-Print App Is More Like WTF

I TESTED IT SO YOU DONT HAVE TO. The German wing of the World Wildlife Foundation released a mini-app last week that lets you save documents, PDFs, and other files with the .wwf extension, which prevents them from being printed. On the face of it, maybe not such a bad idea — believe it not, [...] WWF No-Print App Is More Like WTF is a post from: adventure journal
