Antarctica 2011: Jordan Tops Out On Vinson, Completes Seven Summits!

Image from Google Just a quick update on 15-year old climber Jordan Romero , who finished his quest to climb the Seven Summits over the holiday weekend by successfully topping out on Mt. Vinson. Jordan, along with his father Paul and step-mom Karen, completed their climb on Christmas Eve, and were back in Base Camp in time for dinner. For Jordan, Vinson marked the conclusion of a quest that he started when he was just 10 years old. Inspired by a mural he saw at his school, the young man decided he wanted to climb the ...

Hanna Finkel

Image from Google Hanna didn't have a choice, when her father first put her on a plastic pair of skis at the age of 3. Then she went the way of a classic alpine ski racer until the age of 18. Thanks to the racing experiences and alpine racing competitions, Hanna has a pretty smooth but at the same time sportive and radical skiing style. Her skiing skills made her an ISIA-skiing instructor and to a writer and journalist for a German speaking Freeride Onlinemagazine. Since then the 25-years-old German started venturing on ...

Signalkuppe is rarely visited. The first ascent of this peak was completed in 1906 by

Are Ice Tool Leashes As Archaic as Gaiters, Screamers and Third Tools? The picture above is the last one I could find in my photo collection where I have a leash on a tool--Norway 2005. This is another blog post inspired by a question from a reader. The question was roughly, "I was wondering your take on leashless climbing for beginners? I am a sorta old school ice climber that still uses leashes for those 4 days a year I manage to get out ice climbing. (father in washington state) I feel that I don't get

Impact of Maternity Leave Policies on Traveling with Kids

Almost five years ago my husband and I honeymooned in Sardinia (Sardegna) Italy. We picked the location because we wanted a place where we could sport climb and relax on the beach, plus I was excited to see a part of Italy I hadn't seen before. While we were there, we were excited to see a German couple with two young children - one still in an infant carrier and one was about three. The couple was climbing a route while their children played in the sand. It was such an inspiration to us that we decided
