Last Friday saw a post Christmas shake-down at 'dry tooling central' aka White Goods. Even 3 moves into my warm up I knew which one I was of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Totally flat and fat! Mr T claimed to feel the same but he still quickly dispatched White Goods and then set about Left Over Goods the very stern roof testpiece at the lefthand side of the main crag. A big effort on multiple figure of fours into fig nines saw both Andy's axes left abandoned near the top of the crag and his forearms ...

Posted By Steve Mc Clure the 2011-06-07 Or the God Of all Traverses? Im not the fittest of climbers, but its not often that I turn up at a cliff and only manage one route before crawling off exhausted! But the mega traverse at Craig-y-Longridge is way longer than the average route! Craig-y-Longridge is one of those places that as a climber you just have to visit. Maybe not the most amazing cliff, but its got history and a share of fame. It was almost lost recently before the good old BMC bought it

I learned from Charles Poliquin that you should be able to train your forearms daily. If we were unable to use them daily – we wouldn’t have any mechanics to fix our cars. Right? Hey guys, my name is Paul Wilson and I am locally known in the West Midlands for my fat loss programmes [...] 12 week progression to insane grip strength guest post by Paul Wilson is a post from: Rock Climbing UK , an online UK climbing magazine, written BY UK climbers FOR UK climbers. If you have a Plice that you can tilt the following workout is pretty darn fun. All laps start with the heads of your tools 48 inches off the ground or less, butt, one pullup with a lock at the top. This is roughly the same amount of effort required to climb the five pitches we've done so far at Helmcken. And we're heading back today to try and get higher... Helmcken Falls Workout Approach: 50 squats with a 1/4 bodyweight PACK, 50 push press w/ 1/4 bodyweight, deadlift 1/2 bodyweight 50 times. Now yer ...

NB: This article used to live in the articles section of my old site. I’ve reposted it here since it was really popular. Note that it’s nearly ten years old now! Background Sport climbing is the branch of rock climbing involving routes protected by pre-placed anchor bolts. The explosion in popularity of sport climbing and organised competitions have prompted a significant rise in participation and standards in recent decades. The focus of this new discipline is the athletic and competitive aspects of

My own training is in a state of flux; I haven't set new concrete new physical goals for the rest of the year, but I need to maintain some sort of base. I know I'll be kayaking a fair amount this spring, then rock climbing more and more (I've got an idea for a big rock traverse...). I think Crossfit does a fine job of physical prep for kayaking, and actually kayaking will take care of any issues. Being a lot stronger won't help for most actual kayaking, but it's important to be strong enough (threshold ...

It's THE most famous area on the island. A truly world class cave, possibly the most heavily stalactite-laden climbing cave in the world. You call it the Grande Grotta . We call it today's playground :) Seriously, the Grande Grotta is spectacular. You've never seen such rock architecture, absolute chock-covered with dripping stalactites. It's crazy. And the routes are crazy. We had a sprinkle of rain in the morning. That was all it took to ensure we'd have a crowd up in the cave sector, where you can be

Thanks for joining us again on our next installment. When we last left you, we were enjoying our rest day. Although - don't you find that the first enforced rest day is the hardest one to take? You've only done two days of climbing and you know you should rest, but...ohhh, you're so excited and just want to do one more day... Anyway, we played it smart and it was lucky, because coach Cujes (me) had some brutality in store at one of the premiere cliffs on the island, the varied Odyssey . It started cold and

And now he's done his first 9b. Vojtech Vrzba reports: "Just would like to inform you, that Adam Ondra sent Golpe de Estado 9b in Siurana today. He was in Siurana 4 weeks ago and tried this route but after finger and tendon injury in his forearm [from working Demencia senil], he went back to check. After a couple of weeks of healing and school, he returned to Siurana. Today he made the second ascent of G olpe de Estado , 9b, which was made and first climbed by Chris Sharma." Thanks Vojtech!
