The Outdoor Pros Interview Alan Arnette!

Image from Google One of my favorite stories to follow over the past year or so has been Alan Arnette's ongoing quest to scale the Seven Summits . Alan has always done an excellent job of writing about his adventures and his ability to convey a good story has allowed us all to feel like we've joined him on those mountains. Now, with seven of the eight peaks behind him, and only the elusive Denali off his list, Alan has settled down to talk about his efforts to not only climb the tallest mountain on each continent, but also

Guess Where Swanky Will Break Down(First)? Or – A Pool to Fund Repairs

Last year, Swanky the van was brand new, to me. I bought it from a cop, and my mother(who was a nurse) once told me “Eye doctors can't see; ear doctors are deaf, and psychiatrists are crazy.” Well, I figure that line of thinking probably goes beyond the boundaries of the medical field, if you know what I mean. Now I know there are plenty of optometrists with 20/20 vision, just like most police are law-abiding citizens, but if the lies this guy told me about that van weren't a crime, I don't know what

Pre-Comp Weekend

Image from Google This past weekend was the World Cup in Amman and unfortunately I could not go. The cost of a flight to Amman was about the same as a flight back to North America and without the funding of a federation like Austria, France, Slovenija or Japan, I couldnt justify the cost of going. I instead [...]

The Microadventures With A Dash Of Science

Image from Google Now, with only 3 days to go until I leave for Nepal; and with everything such as packing, acquiring medicine, filling out visa forms and even cleaning my boots still dirty from Lenin, still to do, I used some intuition and decided to utilise some precious time writing another truly outstanding blog. I then scrapped that idea and wrote the one below instead. Since the expedition to Lenin, fortunately I have managed to regroup, and now partly understand the reasons why the expedition wasn’t as successful

Himalaya Fall 2011: Walking With The Wounded Summit Manaslu

Image from Google While the Fall Himalaya season pretty much wrapped up last week, I thought it was worth sharing one more story from the big mountains. Last Wednesday, a team of seven wounded servicemen, representing the Walking with the Wounded organization, reached the summit of Manaslu, which at 8150 meters (26,739 ft), is the eighth highest mountain in the world. The seven soldiers were climbing as part of the Himex squad and were using this expedition as a training exercise for a planned attempt on Everest next ...
