I've long been a fan of La Sportiva shoes. My first rock climbing shoes were Sportivas, purchased in 1986 when I was 12 years old, and still in my garage. (No, I don't use them anymore, opting instead for the...

Sun, sea, speed boats and secret beaches – my last weekend in Sardinia. 2am was not a happy hour for waking up, and was even less happy when I walked out of my door to pouring rain and a flat battery in my car. With my brain still cloudy from sleep, I struggled to think how I would fix this problem and still catch my soon to depart flight, from Munich, two hours drive away. The garage was closed, I had no jump leads, and the airport shuttle had already left... things were not looking good. The €300 ...

I can't decide whether to climb, paraglide, mountain bike, run, kayak, or go speed flying. Hell, the skiing is still pretty good too! And there's a fence to paint, winter debris to pick up, plus some office work I haven't done, etc. Rather than actually doing any of the above I'm on the computer. This is what Seasonal Confusion Disorder, or SCD, can do to you. The weather isn't really perfect for any of the above, so it's easier to spin in circles than settle on any one activity. SCD is serious, ha ha! I

Monstercross bikes are a delightful Frankenstein x-breed between 29ers, road, and mountain bikes — cyclocross steeds with monster wheels, in short — but like any mutant gear category, they come in as many permutations as there are twisted two-wheeled visionaries lurking in their garages in the winter months with wrench in hand. This one is [...]

Crossfit has a competition series that culminates in the Crossfit Games down in California. The first step toward qualifying for that comp is to win a "sectional" comp, which Kim and Sarah, both of Cultfit Coyote Way (AKA our garage and yard), are competing in. Results are here , but the real short version is that they both placed in the top 15, which means they are going to the next level (regionals?) in Airdrie in May! Cool. They have primarily been doing the main-site WODs, plus guiding in Sarah's case,

Training for dZi Endless Ascent First off, today was my first day back on the ice, two weeks to the day since we finished Endless Ascent. I'm losing one fingernail, and the soles of my feet are still bruised. No more cheap socks ever!!!!! Other than that I'm OK, and it sure was fun to mixed climb today! So how do you train to climb ice for 24 hours? That was the question I started asking myself in about June, and for once the internet was short of answers. I had a further problem in that I had some elbow

The Moon Fingerboard isn't a new piece of climbing technology, it's been available for a good few years now and there are a few reviews around, but it was a new addition for me this Christmas. It has taken me a few weeks to get the fingerboard mounted and ready for a workout (lazy start to the year), but it all finally came together last week and I have been playing training hard on it ever since. If you read the information on Moon Climbing they suggest that the Moon Fingerboard will go quite nicely in

A new craze is sweeping the ranks of tweeting climbers, arms are being twisted, couches burned, TV power cords severed. Even the garage is getting reorganized. The reason? One little savage puppy. Not, you say? Heres the proof. The dog goes by various titles, #tpup (as the pullers call him), @Teampup, or simply T. [...]

Well for the last few days it has been Christmas parties, pubs and socialising, i am full to the brim quite literally with Christmas Spirit. I think I only have a few more 'official' parties to go to then I can relax in the christmas /new year gap. I felt the pounds I gained at the climbing wall the other night, although it might have been the hangover I was harbouring. I still await the return of my van the garage managed to lose my keys, so yesterday I had to nip round to Kath's to get a lift to a ...

Yesterday morning was really dark for me. Another friend gone, this shit is getting really old. But we went out anyhow, and used black humor, sarcasm, anger, and physical effort to burn away some of the black cloud. I would not have gone yesterday without Guy in my head; he wouldn't even have bitched about the temperature. I tried not to. I'll write more about Guy Lacelle eventually, but not right now. The man deserves some thoughtful words and not my usual slap-the-spaghetti-on-the-wall-and-see-what ...
