Tactics: Climbing in the cold

On my main blog I just added the video above about a new 8b I did in Glen Nevis. It was climbed in temperatures of Minus 2 or 3 with a light breeze. I thought it would be a good idea to write a post about working around the cold for doing redpoints like this. The tactics are fairly simple: 1 Start off very warm. Make sure you wear enough clothing so you arrive at the crag at the point of overheating. This way, by the time you’ve faffed and put your gear on, you’ll be at the right temperature to start

Endless Analysis #3:Nutrition

Stuff I ate: 1/6 of an amazing, salty, peppery, mouth-savoring steak. One slice of pizza. About 10 or 15 Clif Blok packages (love the 3x Sodium!). Two or five Clif Bars of various types, maybe more. Transitioning back to regular training was tough. Getting out of the pool and transferring back to trails and hills was painful, but my first mountain running coach once told me that I had to "get comfortable with the pain", so that's what April was for me—pain. It took two months of swimming and biking and my incredible physiotherapist, Somer,

The Khumbu Icefall is Crowded……

The Coleman Everest team has checked in on The South Side.  They are safely nestled at Camp 1 now after traveling through the dreaded Khumbu Icefall. They are reporting large crowds through the Icefall and many climbers are having to just stand around and wait their turns at the ladders.  Being the single most dangerous spot on Everest, I am sure that this is playing on a lot of climbers minds right now.  Last season three Sherpa died in the Icefall as a result of a falling serac. The weather is playing
