Five Great Laptops For Travelers

Image from Google My recent trip to the Caribbean was filled with lots of fun activities, including hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing. It wasn't all just about fun in the sun however, as the trip was hosted by Microsoft, who assembled a group of travel writers to give us the scoop on some fantastic tools and laptops that could be of benefit for travelers of all types. Some of those tools included cloud storage service Skydrive , which is a great way to share video and photos from your trip, and Movie Maker and

The Alpine Bouldering Season Wrap-up

Image from Google I think it is safe to say that the regular bouldering season is finished as of about 12 noon this last Tuesday. Currently most of the Front Range is under about 8 inches or more of snow. I made one last-ditch effort to try European Human Being on Monday afternoon but was unsuccessful, make that completely out of it altogether. Angie Payne, who was trying Freaks of the Industry, was also unsuccessful that evening. To top it off, just as I was at Bear Lake, having navigated every stretch of ice successfully

Gear Box: High Peak Alpinismo Lite 'n Fast Sleeping Pad

Image from Google When it comes to sleeping in the backcountry a good tent and a comfortable sleeping bag go a long way to ensuring a good nights sleep. But any backpacker will tell you, to live the true life of luxury, you also need a good sleeping pad. Of course, plenty of gear manufacturers provide durable, comfortable pads for our camping adventures, but few give you the complete package – compact and light weight sleeping pads that you actually look forward to using. High Peak , a company that specializes in quality

Adventure Time part 1

Image from Google Having managed to get a precious slot of free time I'd hoped to go to the Alps but somehow despite planning 4 months in advance I failed to convince anyone to commit to a climb with me! But never fear there are adventures aplenty within our own shores. So I'm halfway through a two-part 'UK choss -o dyssey'. For Part One I linked up with my fellow Climb editor Dave Pickford. First for a 1000ft plus traverse of Avon Gorge's main wall. The Equator is a 12 pitch historical classic which we managed in 7 ...

Burkett Needle East Arete

American climbers John Frieh, Zac West and Davie Burdick claimed the first ascent of the Burkett Needle's east arete, a 8500-foot tower west of Mount Burkett on the Stikine Icecap in southeast Alaska. The expedition was funded by the Copp Dash Inspire Award and the Mazamas Climbing Club. The trio's new route, Repeat Offender (IV 5.9 AI3 M5), is the sixth ascent of the peak. The Burkett Needle was first climbed in 1964 by Layton Kor and Dan Davis on the north buttress. The mountain was not summited for a

New Route on the South Face of Chichicapac

Image from Google Young British climbers Tom Ripley and Hamish Dunn established a new route on the previously-unclimbed south face of Chichicapac (5614m) in the Cordillera Carabaya massif in southern Peru. Dunn and Ripley completed their new, unnamed route (TD, 700m) on August 22, 2011. The Cordillera Carabaya massif comprises six summits over 5000m. The first exploration of the area occurred in the 1950s and 1960s. In 2005, the first commercially organized expedition to the area (headed by Scotland's John Biggar and local

Running stuff, ‘three swift lads’, by Stevie Haston.

Image from Google A running pal told me I was getting senile and left out the most important fact about Steve Jones, so I will add it. Steve Jones still holds the British marathon record! 2hrs 7mins is still the fastest time a Brit can do a Greek distance and the most important thing about Steve’s record for the man himself, is that he shouldn’t have it, it should be bettered! Steve Jones was (still is?) 5 feet 10 inches and his weight was (is?) 62kgs, he now lives in Colorado and helps people run swiftly. The whole ...
