Yesterday I posted another story in the ongoing saga of the internal disputes that are taking place inside the Explorers Club , the 108 year old institution that has been at the forefront of exploration and adventure since its founding. In the story I quoted a New York Post article which stated that EC member Josh Bernstein , who also happens to be on the Club's Board of Directors, was "censured and fined" because he accepted tickets to the Club's annual Patron's Dinner from the event's sponsor, Rolex .

Now, with only 3 days to go until I leave for Nepal; and with everything such as packing, acquiring medicine, filling out visa forms and even cleaning my boots still dirty from Lenin, still to do, I used some intuition and decided to utilise some precious time writing another truly outstanding blog. I then scrapped that idea and wrote the one below instead. Since the expedition to Lenin, fortunately I have managed to regroup, and now partly understand the reasons why the expedition wasn’t as successful

"The Explorers Club is an organization dedicated to adventurers and explorers from around the globe. Today, the Huffington Post gives us an inside look at the club in both this article and the video posted below. The EC is usually closed to non-members –and membership is exclusive– so this may be your one and only chance to see what the place is like. I know I'm still waiting on my invite to visit!

Jim Goodwin died on April 7. To the modern rock and ice climbing community, he was a legendary pioneer. But to the hundreds who joined him as children to hike the Adirondack trails, Jimmy Goodwin was so much more. Jim Goodwin saw himself principally as a guide, a status he treasured not for the money but for the shared joy. Good thing his career began before the AMGA policies manual: Jimmy tacked a notice on the bulletin board at the Interbrook Lodge when he was eleven years old. At fifty cents a day for

In the past week or so, I have been on the sidelines, writing-wise, focusing on doing some bouldering and painting and catching up with work. In the meantime, a couple of interesting developments have occurred. The first is that Alpinist Magazine has asked me to contribute a regular web-based column. I am very enthusiastic about this chance to write on the topic of climbing for such an excellent journal. Expect to see a piece out in the next month or so. The other exciting news is an invitation to join up

Living in Austin, Texas I don't have the need for snow boots very often. In fact, up until a week and a half ago, I hadn't even owned a pair since I moved here from Iowa more than five years ago. But when I received an invitation to visit Yellowstone in the winter, I knew I'd need good boots to keep my feet warm and dry while spending the days playing in the snow. As usual, I turned to the Keen catalog of footwear to see what they had on offer, and ended up going with a pair of Summit County Boots . A ...
