Hey Everyone! I'm happy to say that on March 23, 24, and 25, I will be at Mesa Rim Climbing and Fitness Center with Angie Payne, Daniel Woods, and Ethan Pringle! Aside from being great friends, this is a class act gathering of athletes who are all super stoked to work and climb with the community in Southern California. On Friday night, we will be helping out with a fundraiser for Outdoor Outreach. On Saturday, from 10am-4pm, we will be running a Youth Clinic. On Sunday, from 10am-4pm, we will be running

Got alotta letters asking about great runs, and rather than keep wasting my time replying, and changing my opinion, I thought I’d set it in stone. There are many great runs, but there is only one that rules them, but more of that later. First this planet of ours is still incredible in its beauty and diversity, so we should as citizens of the world, take notice, take part, and do our best to keep at least. some corners of it immaculate, as mountain runners I hope we do that, and don’t drop those little

After posting my previous story last night on the unusual happenings at the Explorers Club ,I've now had a second source come forward to fill in more of the details and I've also spoken with an official from the Club itself. This is definitely an evolving story right now, with two very different perspectives of this situation. I'll try to best relate the details as they have been conveyed to me from both sides. First, I'll tell you what I heard back from the Club itself after I placed a phone call yesterday

***This race report was written under intense jet lag, after way too many hours of travel and intense post race fatigue & sleep deprivation!. "Remember to smile out there!" This message, posted to my Facebook wall by Peter Watson, was my mantra for almost 10.5 hours last Friday. It was good advice that dramatically changed my perception of a rather uncomfortable experience. I was running the Courmayer-Champex-Chamonix (CCC) race at the Ultra Trail de Mont Blanc (UTMB) race festival. Starting in Italy, this

Lower Chaos Canyon The summer is almost over and with it the opportunity to go up to the Park on a regular basis. As I look back on the past two and a half months, time which has evaporated with incredible rapidity, I am reminded of the precious quality of solitude and contemplation which these days in the mountains have offered. For many bouldering is a group activity, something done in the company of friends, acquaintances, even a random group of fellow boulderers. For me it is something different, even

Last weekend was an active one for Colorado's Longs Peak. On Friday Alpinist Contributor and Mountain Standards Reviewer Blake Herrington completed the "Quadruple Lindy." The next day Josh Wharton made the first free ascent of the Diamond's Dunn-Westbay formerly graded at 5.10, A3, 1000 feet. Conceived by Bill Wright and Kelly Cordes in 2003, the "Triple Lindy" climbs the three biggest rock faces in RMNP, the Diamond (Longs Peak East Face), Chief's Head North West Face, Mount Alice East Face in a day ...

Seth Hobby called in from 14K tonight. He was hanging out in one of the AMS posh's (kitchen tent) relaxing after dinner with several other AMS guides and team members. Seth said that his team as well as every other AMS team was looking super solid. Todd and Todd's crew were on their way to 17K as we were talking. I'm not sure what Todd's plans are. Weather is good in there now. The move from 14 to 17 is a long and hard one. Depending on weather and how every one is feeling tomorrow will determine whether

The 2011 Catlin Arctic Survey came to an official end last week when the Explorers Team was finally picked up from the ice. That team, consisting of Ann Daniels, Tyler Fish, Adrian McCallum, and Phil Coates, had been traveling south from the North Pole towards Greenland for the past six weeks. Last Wednesday, the team had nearly given up on finding a suitable landing area for a plane to land to complete the pick-up. The ice was thinning and there were more and more open leads of water, which made travel

This route escaped my day to day blogging from Pembroke... and so with a little time on my hands thanks to a Mello-enforced rest day, here it is. Pretty good timing actually as the route saw its first repeat courtesy of Neil Mawsons last weekend. Its always nice to see your routes getting attention, I hope more people follow in Neil's footsteps. Picture from the first ascent - David Simmonite Before I begin, I want to ask public opinion of the name of the route. Do You Know Where Your Children Are? is ...

Whilst it might have seemed to many people that I had dropped off the face of the earth (and I would probably include some of my sponsors, friends and family in those people), I was simply taking a step away from what I knew, and wondering how differently things would appear from another viewpoint. Jacob Schroedel I knew that things would change, they had to - the trouble was I just didn’t know quite how. I wanted to better myself by training my weaknesses, but knew that since my strengths lay in trad,
