Between July 22, 2011, and August 28, 2011, Russian/Ukrainian climbers Marina Kopteva, Galina Chibitok and Anna Yasinskaya spent thirty-eight days establishing a new route, Parallelniy Mir (VI+ 6b A3), on the northwest face of Great Trango Tower (6238m). My recent trip to the Caribbean was filled with lots of fun activities, including hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing. It wasn't all just about fun in the sun however, as the trip was hosted by Microsoft, who assembled a group of travel writers to give us the scoop on some fantastic tools and laptops that could be of benefit for travelers of all types. Some of those tools included cloud storage service Skydrive , which is a great way to share video and photos from your trip, and Movie Maker and

We finished our new route in the Peak District a day early, so I had time after all to make it to the Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival . That was the 9 th EMFF and I was glad I didn’t miss it as it always provides a fresh dose of inspiration and an atmosphere. As a speaker or climber featured in a good few films, I’ve been to a lot of mountain festivals but I’d have to say Edinburgh is my favourite. A lot of that is down to Stevie Christie managing to strike the right note with the vibe, films, ...

Chuck Fryberger has been on a mission to inject some style into climbing and climbing films. I enjoyed some of the mega footage from his last film Core and was eager to see his latest climbing flick ‘The Scene’. Chuck has based himself in various modern centres where the world’s best climbers seem to be gathering right now such as Innsbruck, Catalunya, Boulder and various other areas around the USA. There are some quite nice interviews with the best climbers of the moment talking about what fires ...

Posted By Liv Sansoz the 2011-08-02 A little trick for any climber who might experience a broken foot one day... and only if you feel no pain when pushing down on your leg : Go to your favorite Shoemaker and ask him, as seriously as possible, to stick some Vibram rubber on your cast! That is exactly what I did after a few frustrating climbing attempts, sliding unpleasantly with the cast. I went to see Christophe, the very professional and nice shoemaker in Chamonix. I thought he would think I was crazy but

The Versus channel continues to do an excellent job of delivering Tour de France coverage once again this year. Lets face it, the sport is certainly not the easiest one to sell to none cycling fans, and yet the great team at Versus finds a way to make it compelling television year in and year out. If you haven't been watching these past few weeks, you're in luck, as today and tomorrow are likely to be excellent. Depending on the standings, Saturday's individual time trial should be fantastic as well. ...

It certainly was an interesting weekend in the Tour de France, where the race moved into the first medium mountain stages, giving the Peloton its first taste of the pain that lies ahead in the Alps and the Pyrenees. After two long days of racing, leading to a rest day today, we ended up with a new overall leader in the Tour, but we also had an inordinate number of crashes, some of which will no doubt have an impact on the final standings in Paris. Heading into the weekend, Norwegian cyclist Thor Hushovd

I’m off up tomorrow (Ha! Today actually - another late night typing…) with Claire, Freida, Andy Turner, Diff, Lukasz and others for a good trip to Orkney. We’ll either be dodging fulmars on the cliffs or dodging showers and eating Stoats bars all day back at basecamp. Fingers crossed for the former. It’s going to be cool to go for a proper trip, so long as we get some weather of course. I’ve mostly been there with Claire or just by myself and for short trips, so I’m interested to see how things

I found this the other day and thought it applied well to our Broad Peak trip. We'd already agreed as a team that $20 is going into the DEC fund for every time somebody has a row but maybe it should be extended to breaking the rules...
