The genetic imperative is a powerful drive, and its rarely inhibited, at least in the male of the species, by whether theres a roof overhead or walls around. Indeed, for some, the lack of shelter creates its own kind of unrestraint. Something about fresh air, sunshine (or starshine), and but honey, its nature-al that sparks [...]

Three new products just added to the shop which provided me with some excellent climbing entertainment of very different types! I hope you like them too: Climbing philosophy for everyone: A book that has been needing to be written for some time. Stephen Schmid has brought together a series of philosophers who are also involved in climbing to take a head on look at the philosophy of various aspects of climbing. Down-to-earth entertainment and fresh farm foods collide on the Santa Cruz coast. Spend the weekend nibbling and noshing, toss in a two-step, and leave with a smile wider than a country mile. Barn Burner If you think barns are for cows and chickens then you havent been to Pie Ranch for the barn dance. On the third Saturday of the month this blink-and-youll-miss-it spot on Highway 1 blows the roof off. The nonprofit farm teaches sustainable practices and gives attention to something commonly overlooked in

A week ago the Crossfit Games ran in California. The parts I watched were hugely inspirational, and had some more "real" athletic tests than I've seen in previous games. Overall super cool, but I gotta go off on a couple of things. First, Crossfit pumps the games as finding the "fittest athlete on earth;" I have a little problem with that slogan as I don't believe in the idea of "fittest on earth." I care about performance in sports; I respect every top Crossfit athlete anywhere for their performances at
