Momento Libero, new route by Alessio Roverato on Sasso Rosso

Last summer Alessio Roverato established Momento Libero (330m, 8a max, 7a/b obligatory), up the SE Face of Sasso Rosso (Valsugana, Valbrenta, Italy).

Karakoram 2011: All K2 Teams Back In BC

Image from Google K2 continues to be an elusive summit for climbers once again this year, turning back the first wave of mountaineers over the weekend, while others prepared for their own assaults. Yesterday we had word that two Kazakh climbers had reached Camp 4 on the mountain, and indications were that they were hoping to go to the summit, but high winds and heavy snow have forced them back down the mountain, where they hope to get another chance to complete their climb. Maxut Zhumayev checked in today from Base Camp,

The Traverse of the Gods

Posted By Steve Mc Clure the 2011-06-07 Or the God Of all Traverses? I’m not the fittest of climbers, but it’s not often that I turn up at a cliff and only manage one route before crawling off exhausted! But the mega traverse at Craig-y-Longridge is way longer than the average route! Craig-y-Longridge is one of those places that as a climber you just have to visit. Maybe not the most amazing cliff, but it’s got history and a share of fame. It was almost lost recently before the good old BMC bought it

Max and the Mustache

Image from Google I hope by now that you all know who Max Zolotukhin is.  Maybe you know him as the lovable hipster down at the bar drinking a Porter, the fella at the gym training in painted on pants, or just the man behind the best mustache in rock climbing.  Either way, he is a good friend [...]

New Year's Tips for Ice, ability gains.

Ice Tips: -Carry more "short" ice screws. The standard rack here in the Rockies used to be a batch of 21cm or longer screws. Now the vast majority of my screws are 13cm, with a few stubbies if needed and one 21cm screw for V or A threads (I don't think it matters much which one you use really). Clear the surface ice to get to good ice and a 13cm BD is as strong as a longer screw or close enough it doesn't matter . Longer screws tend to hit rock and are then ever the same again; it's far better to use a ...

Red, Moon & Star

Again, I dont have a lot of information about this movie. 9 pitches, 400 meters, 8a max, red rock, nice place. The climbers are in love with the route. Turkey? Anyway, worth watching! Enjoy Author: Andrea Tosi Climber: ? Location: ? Language: EN

Tor des Géants by Stevie Haston

Photos credit to Lorenzo Belfrong How would you like to run for 330 km? You probably wouldn’t, no sensible person would. Would you like to do 24,000 meters of ascent and decent? No definitely not, you would have to be out of your mind, right. The Tor de Geants is a race, or event, that takes in the 330km and 24,000meters of up and had 380 entrants of all ages, who thought it might be fun. Surprisingly they all seemed fairly normal to me, a bit passionate perhaps, very fit and eager, but no they weren’t

Rolling, Fitness and Kayaking

Image from Google I've had a ton of fun with a personal kayaking resurgence in the past three years, thanks to a good crew of people here in Canmore and elsewhere, it's been great, yeah! New boats, new rivers, new tactics, loving it, it sure is a great sport. But I'm seeing two issues: Paddlers with lousy rolls, and unfit paddlers. I'll deal with the rolling issue first as it's simpler. If a person can't roll effectively on both sides of a kayak with or without a paddle he or she has no business being on a serious ...
