Everest Now Streaming On Webcam

Image from Google A team of scientists researching the effects of climate change on the Himalaya have installed a solar powered webcam on Kala Patthar and aimed it at everyone's favorite mountain – Everest. The cam is only in operation from 6AM to 6PM local time (which means as I write this, it is off) but offers of views of the world's tallest mountain during daylight hours. The researchers have also set up a host of weather recording instruments and hope to use them in conjunction with the camera to monitor how Everest

Image from Google With the 2011 Tour de France in the books, it is easy to let a post-race malaise set in as we wait patiently for 2012 to get here so we can cheer on our favorite riders once again. This is the time that we console ourselves with our own long rides while day dreaming about our own days in the Yellow Jersey. Fortunately, the post-Tour cycling coverage over at Outside Online can help ease the pain of not getting our daily fix of Paul Sherwen and Phil Liggett. First up, Outside says that we can fight our ...

Expedition Behaviour: The Finer Points

I found this the other day and thought it applied well to our Broad Peak trip. We'd already agreed as a team that $20 is going into the DEC fund for every time somebody has a row but maybe it should be extended to breaking the rules... Posting from UK Part 2

Image from Google Now that I am somewhat over the jet lag, I can post something a bit more lengthy. The weather unfortunately has been less than cooperative for climbing. Tuesday was relatively dry and Mark Glaister from Rockfax Books took me and Hubert Canart, who runs Belclimb.net , for a low-key excursion to Holyhead Mountain on Anglesey, directly adjacent to the famous sea-cliff of Craig Gogarth. This cliff is a very appealing chunk of gray/white quartzite with a wide variety of lines from easy to relatively hard. The

Impact of Maternity Leave Policies on Traveling with Kids

Almost five years ago my husband and I honeymooned in Sardinia (Sardegna) Italy. We picked the location because we wanted a place where we could sport climb and relax on the beach, plus I was excited to see a part of Italy I hadn't seen before. While we were there, we were excited to see a German couple with two young children - one still in an infant carrier and one was about three. The couple was climbing a route while their children played in the sand. It was such an inspiration to us that we decided

Gear Box: Osprey Hornet 32 Pack

It's no secret that I'm a fan of Osprey Packs . In fact, I own several of them in a variety of sizes, and they each serve a specific purpose, and they do so very well. Which is why I was excited to have the offer to test out one of their new Hornet 32 packs, a lightweight, minimalist daypack that still carries all the quality you expect from Osprey. The first thing you'll notice when you pick up the Hornet is just how light it actually is. The bag is designed for trail runners, adventure racers, and peak
