I would think that the last thing you'd want to do while BASE jumping is run into problems with your gear, aka the parachute that keeps you from plummeting to your death. Especially while riding something called "The Death Swing." But that's what happens in the video below, which I present as Exhibit A in the Case For Why I'll Never Go BASE Jumping. Thanks to the Goat for sharing! BASE Jump Chute Failure, Miracle Save! from Rock Ice on Vimeo .

Lets face it, climbing is hard on the body. In fact, its on a long list of things that the human body was never intended for: jumping off buildings with parachutes on, hucking 30 foot cliffs on skis, lifting massive amounts of weight, dangling from our finger tips, etc. Even so, it still comes as [...]

Okay, so it's a bit of a slow news day on a Friday before the holiday season really kicks into gear. So to wake you up, I present the video below, which comes our way courtesy of Adventure World Magazine and my friends at the Aussie adventure mag Outer Edge . The video is the Top 10 Bigget and Best Jumps Ever, and it crosses disciplinary lines without regard. You'll see ski jumps, BASE jumps, motorcycle jumps, and so much more. You'll even see some dude jump out of an airplane without a parachute. Crazy

Yves Rossy, better known as Jetman , was up to his old tricks again a few days back when he leapt off a hot air balloon and ignited his jetpack, which sent him climbing up to 2400 meters (7874 ft) before retuning to circle around the balloon twice. He would eventually pull the ripcord on his parachute and drift gently to the ground, but not before he did his best superman imitation, flying through the air like a bird. A really, really fast, jet-powered bird. Check out the video below to see what I mean.

Today I jumped out of a plane at 10,000 feet. I had wanted to do this for a long time and I wasn't disappointed. After a quick breifing it was into the plane and strapped to my skydive instructor. At 10,000 the door flew open and we launched ourselfs into the sky. We freefell for quite a while before the parachute opened a 5,000ft and we glided back to the ground. Can't wait to do it again.

The lovely and talented Steph Davis posted this great video of her and Mario Richard having some fun in their wingsuits over Quebec, Canada. In the description for the video she describes it as capturing "Afine day in the sky where no one has any parachute malfunctions, and nothing bad happens to anyone." Which of course begs the question, how often do you have parachute malfunctions and what bad things occur on a regular basis? Those comments don't exactly inspire confidence in this sport. Still, it makes

For the first time, Boulder, Colorado has hosted a climbing event, The Battle in the Bubble , that reflects its position as one of the country's premiere climbing destinations. Simply put, everything went perfectly from a spectator's point of view. Access was no hassle after entering the park at the Reservoir. Sponsor tents, a slackline setup, and a climbing wall tower were just a few of the things on hand to check out. Not charging admission was a great idea, and I hope this event can continue to stay ...

After running Largo y Sinuoso Camino we came back to the city to attend the last night of the Banff Mountain Film Festival . Here's a brief review of the films for each of the 3 days: Friday, October 9: Conference: Carlos Carsolio: Without a doubt, Carlos has been one of the greatest alpinists of all times. Now into the world of paragliding, in this conference he shared details and memoirs from his latest paragliding expedition across Mexico. Absolutely amazing! Check out this amazing photo courtesy of the Wend Blog . You see that little black speck? Yep, that's someone going off the top of that mountain. Presumably he or she is wearing a parachute and is doing a little BASE jumping. If not, I don't want to hear about it.

My friend Shane recently hucked and it didn't work out. I've had a real down week thinking about his death and so many others over the years. I smile when I think about Shane (I don't think anyone who ever hung out with him for more than 20 minutes doesn't smile when thinking about Shane), but the aftermath for his family must be rough. Shane wasn't a super-tight friend, but we did some cool stuff together over the years through Red Bull, and had some ideas for trips in the future. I'm damn sorry it didn't
