The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of activity over at LT11. We have been traveling, competing, making movies, editing, and climbing like its our job. In fact, it is our job, and we love it. This is the most rewarding thing I have ever committed my time to. ...

Pakistan climbing is full throttle: seasons first summits went to Latok III; a massive rescue saved a life; scattered victories on the Gasherbrums so far. The past two weeks brought out interviews and some major stories; one such touching the final flight of the shuttle. Pakistan wrap-up: Alexander Odintsovs Russian Big Wall team summited Latok [...]

A pay service made ExplorersWeb create headlines all on its own in the past two weeks. Wire- and breaking news are still free but a subscription is needed for specials such as the other big news last week: about Miss Oh losing her summit status at Adventure Stats. In other news: a huge review of [...]

Just a quick post this morning to thank everyone for entering the contests that I've been running the past two weeks to give away two products from Gerber Gear . I had far more people enter than I expected, and I wish I had a prize for everyone! This week's winner is Bert Vanmiddelem of Ontario, Canada. Bert gets the Gerber Mini Fast Draw pocket knife that was up for grabs this week, and I'll be shipping it out to him as soon as I can. Congratulations to both Bert, and Suzanne Graham, who won the Octane

I have been making the drive over to Estes pretty consistently over the past two weeks, putting in some serious effort on two or three hard problems. Pondering the somewhat absurd nature of the enterprise, I ran across this forum topic at 8a.nu, "What bouldering grade would you give Everest?" This led to me to consider the relative difficulty of, say, a V12 boulder problem in RMNP, compared to Mount Everest and the likelihood of my doing either. This was thrown into relief by the recent ascent by Jordan

The past two weeks have been all about the Karakoram kick-off, the end of the Mars Ocean Odyssey voyage, a new kite record on Greenland, andthe issue of age in adventure. Mars Ocean Odyssey Reid Stowe spent his last day of his 1152 continuous days at sea at anchor outside New York before sailing in [...]

While I was away, two teams managed to complete their journeys to the North Pole, while other explorers were forced to give up on their dreams and call for an evac, ending their long, cold, struggles against the Arctic conditions. Back on April 23rd, Eric Larsen and his team reached 90ºN, finishing their quest to stand at the top of the world. It took them 51 days to cover the route, and the fittingly enough, they reached the Pole on Earth Day no less. For Eric, this is the second of three poles that he

Sometimes I climb best when I have ZERO expectations
Ive had ZERO expectations over the past two weeks and I have been taking it easy after hurting my back last week. I have been laying low as the rain and warm weather start to take over the Front Range. The alpine areas (RMNP and Mt. Evans) [...]

I have been off work for the past week, spending it reading, writing and climbing as much as possible along with painting. On the climbing front, I have been pretty active, mostly repeats of V8 and V9 problems on Flag. In the past two weeks, I have done about 8-10 ascents in that range. I still have issues with something in my right middle finger but it's not prohibiting too much. The weather has been pretty erratic, limiting serious commitment to anything local. I finally wrapped up work on a short essay

Here’s a video from the past two weeks at Black Mountain including first ascents of Blenny Run and Megalomania as well as repeats of Dark Horse, Lightning, and Moondrop! In retrospect, Moondrop might be V7 but I think the other grades are accurate.
