Forrest grew up in the mountains and is the product of a life spent in the outdoors. Born in Klamath Falls, Oregon, he and his family moved to Mount Shasta when he was three. With a ski resort fifteen minutes from his home and parents that worked at the resort, it was natural that Forrest took to skiing at an early age. Forrest's early focus in skiing was geared towards ski racing. During high school, Forrest won two high school state championships and was the 1998 USSA J1 Jr. Olympic Champion in the ...

In this portrait from iClimb, Christian Core, the Italian bouldering master and ex World Champ, shares his bouldering philosophy and talks about his passion for bouldering. To him, it's not really a sport, but more a way to find out who you are and grow as a person.
Of course we also get to see him climb his perfect line, Gioia at Varazze, a problem that's definitely up there among the hardest on the planet. Watching the video, one gets quite a good idea why, as the close ups reveal the size...

Arrival... At first you feel like you have died and gone to heaven, a bouldering heaven decorated with palm trees and coloured carpets; but fairly quickly Tafraoute reveals its dirty little secret. Very rough, very sandy, and very frustrating is how I would describe the rock in Tafroute in polite terms. My mum told me saying bad words makes baby Jesus cry so I wont stoop to those despicable levels, instead I will use SCIENCE to demonstrate my point. Surveying... Utilising some of the most modern and ...

Walking through the forests of Ticino (southern Switzerland) to my favourite bouldering crags just after Christmas, I was astonished by the number of climbers―it’s crazy to consider the explosive popularity of this area over the last 15 years. Back in the day, it was just a few lost souls in the woods, but it’s become a winter mecca for hundreds of climbers from all over Europe. I’m no misanthrope, but I do like bouldering at my own pace! I continued my quest and saw many possibilities, but ...

Pierre Delás, from Kairn , interviewed Chris Sharma in Santa Linya a while back. Chris talks about FRFM, climbing in general, his routes, life and projects. Photos: Laurent Triay What route was it you did yesterday? It’s called First ley, and is around 9a+. In reality it's the left variation of my project FRFM (First round, first minute). There is a very hard section at the end of FRFM, you know. I've fallen ~30 times at the last move. I'm tired of (and pissed off) it and I wanted to try something else.

Feeling great after my few days up North I logged on to catch up with news on the web and my heart sunk. Guy Lacelle, the Canadian ice climbing guru, had died in an avalanche at the Bozeman ice climbing Festival. I bumped into Guy over the years on the festival circuit and had the privilege to share a rope with him for a couple of days ice climbing in the Canmore region. His skills as an ice climber were truly the stuff of legend. Aged 54 he'd racked up an incredible list of first ascents and repeats of

The day started well: good luck in the first route, a nice knot in the 5th bolt And really good conditions: sunny, cool and windy.. I came to Berdorf again to try a very nice line I had worked on once before. While working on "nikita" I recognized that nice overhanging, unstructured part of the wall, for me it looked imposive! After looking well I saw that its not that unstructured. There is just what you need and nothing more. A perfect line to the left throught that nice overhanging wall. I started to

I'm headed to Raleigh, NC today to catch a flight to Manchester, NH to visit Gavin, Max, and Doug. The Heart of Steel Bouldering Competition is on Saturday and there is some descent money up for grabs as well as some potentially awesome finals rounds set up... The finals rounds are going to have cash taped to the wall, game show style, that you grab as you go by and you potentially can make up to $1000 by finishing the problems the other can't. There will be a few strong guys there that I know of, Vasya
