Looking for a new challenge for 2012? Then look no further than the UTi Rhodes Run , a grueling 52km (32.3 mile) race through the beautiful Drakensberg mountains of South Africa. This year's race will take place on July 14, in the heart of winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and as always, the course will wander through rough terrain that offers the potential for encounters with wild animals. This will be the 24th edition of the Rhodes Run, and over the years, it has earned a reputation for being quite the

Its ski season here in Chamonix at the moment. Not much climbing is getting done by my friends, but lots of skiing seems to be the norm. Here are a couple of photos from the Pas de Chevre which runs underneath the Dru North Face. I dont usually take the big camera out skiing, and [...]

These photos were taken on Glas Maol today. There is still good snow cover especially on Easterly aspects. If you look beyond, large accumulations of snow can be seen in the high corries. Wind exposed areas such as the top of Glas Maol are bare of snow and frozen hard!

Can you see the Katana Lace up hiding in the picture? I promise it is there! Spot the Shoe... Photo - Caroline Ciavaldini I am lying on my back, half stuck inside a hole on this giant block of Swiss Cheese, trying to figure where to go next. I squeeze upwards, or is it sideways, limbs twisted and inching slowly... then finally, there it is; the next quickdraw! You would be forgiven I was caving, but no, this is just another strange and funky route in the mega roof of Pha Tam Kam, the newest discovery in

Peter Minks otherwise known as Minks, died of cancer on the 7th. He was one of the reasons I fell in love with the North Wales crew and had such a ball in the late 70’s. As a climber he had nimble feet and was Whillans like in his physique, he did the second solo of the Walker back in the day and was very proficient at all parts of the game. The game of course wasn’t just climbing it was about fun and carousing. I can think of alotta his mates dropping a tear into a pint or ten. He and I did a very ...

Paul Diffley captures the action from an airy filming position on the Longhope route. Photo: Lukasz Warzecha On February 8th, myself, Andy Turner and filmmaker Paul Diffley will be speaking at the Royal Geographical Society in London about the Longhope route. Mountain Equipment and Gore-Tex have helped us arrange an evening of entertainment at the RGS to share with you what was pretty memorable adventure for us, both in terms of the climbers involved in attempting to climb this cliff over 40 years, and in

In 2011, Kien Lam spent 343 days traveling around the world, visiting 17 countries in the process. Along the way, he took 6237 photos, and now has compiled them into the five minute timelapse video below. The video now serves as a great reminder of the year that has just passed, and an excellent inspiration for the finding our own adventures in the year ahead. Enjoy!

...and where better to spend them than South East Asia. Avoiding the cold and the snow, adventuring in the jungle, and eating mangos on the beach - not forgetting a little climbing. To make us appreciate the things to come even more, we spent Christmas and New year in a very soggy England, where there are definitely no Mangos - just a LOT of chocolate. Its safe to say that right now I feel like quite the glutton, but luckily Christmas comes but once a year. In addition to the usual orgy of Tonsai, we plan
