My house was still standing after Hurricane Bawbag and all is well as we settle into a long awaited full week at home and not on the road. Despite a million flattened trees in the glen around our house, everything except our TV signal (dodgy aerial down at the loch shore) survived. Our internet connection survived and that has been keeping us busy with Christmas orders from the webshop (thanks for those!!). We are dispatching every day as always by first class post. While the gales and sleet rage outside,

This time of year is always hectic, it seems like the majority of my work and non climbing commitments all come at the same time, which is a good thing as it leaves a lot of the year free, but can sometimes be frustrating when climbing has to be put on the back burner, and you feel yourself growing fat from all the eating out and

Gabriele Moroni our italian team athlete, has finally redpointed the route named "Coup de Bambou" (9a), one of the hardest picthes in the Great Arch! Here are some words from his personnal blog : Gabriele Moroni : "First day I climb on easier stuffs and learn the style. I decide to attack on my second day! Already on my first try I'm able to do all the moves... as I thought the bottom part suits well my climbing... about 30° steep wall, big but precise moves, pinches, edges and a few balls features! Posted By Steve Mc Clure the 2011-10-25 China . A country just over the edge of the radar. A little exploration here and there. But it is vast, and only just opening up. Are we in for a surprise as the view unfolds! People talk of our rock running out, but here in China we have not even begun. The Petzl rock trip is beginning at the area of Getu, a national park, only opened up maybe 10 years ago. Before that the only eyes that passed over the mind blowing scenery were that of the locals. But we are ...

I recently expanded my home climbing wall, adding a big 45 degree wall. It was the one key angle I had been missing. When I went through my hold collection to see which holds were most suitable for going on the 45 I discovered a bit of a pattern. Holds were either too big and juggy and I could campus on them. Or they were too small or slopey to do anything other than bump off or compress with because they were actually designed for less steep walls. And pinches. God, it seemed like everything I put on the

This past weekend we took Dave's advice ( @BlueFoxCA ) and braved the rainy forecast for a belated Mother's Day trip to the Gunks. The trip was a lesson to us with regard to future trip planning. Some of the lessons were logistical and others were things we KNOW but don't always follow. Here's the trip report with the good, the bad, and the ugly. All in all, it's truly a reminder that a bad day of climbing is still better than a day of no climbing at all! We left central PA around 5:30 pm and drove the ...

I was running through my repertoire of easy meal options for climbing, hiking, traveling with kid etc., and thought I'd share my short list in hopes of getting some feedback (and an expanded selection) for quick and easy food options. Some caveats: Refrigeration can be a challenge (adds to the amount we carry) so I try to think of things that won't spoil quickly. Some of the options on my short list, however, probably require refrigeration. We use these for short day trips and/or the climbing gym. 1. ...

American Paul Robinson is one of the world's best boulderers right now being only one of two people to have climbed proposed V16, and he's posted up on his blog one of his typical hangboard workouts. Obviously this is going to be more advanced that most people can handle, but it might give you a few ideas on exercises you can perform on the board. Have fun, and watch those elbows! P-Rob's Workout A few people have inquired about what I do on the hang board for my workouts. It pretty simple considering ...

Labor Day Getaways Did the long weekend sneak up on you? Labor no more. Its easy to plan in a pinch with any of these ready to go adventures. Youve Got Purisima: A 10-mile hike that combines all the right stuff: hulking second-growth redwoods, rich fern canyons, spectacular views, and almost no people! Good Abbotts: Hike 1.5 miles to Point Reyes Abbotts Lagoon, a quiet oasis protected from the elements by large sand dunes. Spread a blanket and a picnic. Afterward wander the nearby seashore in search of ...
