Maltese Climbing, Maltese Madness, by Stevie completely normal Haston.

Image from Google unclimbed cliff! Just spent three weeks in Malta and Gozo, what can I say, apart from being very happy and comfortable with reaffirming my Maltese roots. I’ll be honest from the start, I did the tinniest bit of climbing and the maximum amount of free diving. The Maltese side of the family are reassuringly still doing their thing, a bit of farming, some work, too much eating, and family stuff. It was easy to drop right back into this life, talking serious one second, nonsense the next, catching fish and

Outside Investigates The Death Of Hendri Coetzee

Back in December, the outdoor adventure community was stunned by the news that paddling guide Hendri Coetzee was killed while guiding a team of professional kayakers down the Lukuga River in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Coetzee, along with American paddlers Ben Stookesberry and Chris Korbulic, had just completed a tough section of whitewater, when a large crocodile approached them from behind. In an instant, the croc attacked, pulling Coetzee from his boat, and pulling him under the water, never

The show will spotlight some of the longest and biggest animal migrations on the planet, covering everything from the massive traverse of the Serengeti by vast herds of wildebeests and zebras, to the complete circumnavigations of the planet by giant sperm whales. I've been fortunate enough to see the show

In August of this year, a trio of friends from Finland will be setting out on an amazing adventure through the Kalahari Desert that will see them covering more than 1000 km (620 miles) on foot through some of Botswana's most remote and rugged wilderness. Dubbed the Trans-Kalahari Adventure Run , the plan is for Jukka Viljanen, Kirsi Montonen, and Greg Maud to make the journey in approximately 20 days, averaging 50km (31 miles) per day. The equivalent of running a marathon+, through African backcountry, ...

Climbing and Evolution

I was reading a very interesting piece in the New York Times about predators and the role that fear has played in the evolution of the human species. The author vividly reflected on the nature of dying by being attacked by a lion: It’s hard to imagine how terrifying such a death must be. To be asleep in bed and to wake to hear a rustling sound, to see an animal leaping, to feel its breath on your face — think of the sweat, the panic, the contraction of your gut, the pounding of your heart, the gasping
