As promised, I have more gear news and reports from Outdoor Retailer. With as much stuff that is shown at the expo, it is nearly impossible to see it all, even if you're there open-to-close, each day of the event. Instead, we have to content ourselves to relying on the Internet to satiate our gear lust and help us decide how to spend our money. First, I've written and published a preview of my own today at Gadling.com . It has five of the items that I saw at the OR that were particularly impressive to me.

Okay, I promise I won't be doing recaps or posting thoughts after every episode of Expedition Impossible , but considering my critique of the show earlier in the week , I thought it was fitting that I follow it up with another after watching the second episode. After watching the premiere last week, I felt confident that I was going to enjoy the show, although there were a few aspects that I felt needed to be improved. Watching the second episode, it became more clear that those small nitpicks probably ...

The second episode of ABC's summer reality show Expedition Impossible is set to air tonight, and I know that some of you, like me, enjoyed the first episode and are looking forward to the race continuing. With that in mind, I have a few links to share this morning that fans of the show might really enjoy. First, we have a great post from Eric Weihenmayer on his BlindVision Blog in which he gives a peek behind the curtain and shares some details of what really went on during the race. If you're watching the

Academy Award winner Danny Boyle debuts his new film 127 Hours this weekend, and as most of you know by now, it tells the tale of Aron Ralston, who gained a measure of infamy when he managed to pin his arm under a boulder while hiking in the canyons of Utah back in 2003. The film looks amazing in every preview I've seen so far, and I'm looking forward to catching it as soon as I can, even though there are reports of people passing out from the scene in which Aron, played by James Franco, has to amputate

It seems like just yesterday that the online outdoor community was divided into camps over who was the better wilderness specialist, Bear Grylls or Les Stroud. The two men went head to head with Grylls' Man vs. Wild taking on Stroud's Survivorman . For those of you who missed those stimulating conversations, you're in luck! Les is about to return with an all new show for the Discovery Channel . The new show is called Beyond Survival, and it will begin airing on Friday, August 27th. This time out, Les will

Have you ever walked past a building or public monument and thought about climbing it? I know have! I used to traverse the stone walls on the outside of the family house and often find myself thinking about climbing a particular line that catches my eye somewhere in the city. I don't think that there is a climber out there who wouldn't have thought about climbing something they found apealling, it's in our nature. With this in mind Yannick Boissenot has created an "urban climbing" film about climbing ...
