Keith Sharples reports in words and pictures on the Sheffield round of the 2011 World Cup.
"Whilst qualification had been all about crimping and cranking along with some rock-over and groove action, the semi's and finals were all about volumes..."

We arrived well in Oslo! But there was still a long way to go. We had to wait 1,5h to get a rented car. At the airport we met Daila Ojeda and we drove 6 hours till we reached the meeting point which was only 290km away. Finally we arrived at 2 am and met the rest of the German team, Jule Wurm, Jan Hojer, Christian Popien and Jeremias Groß and got a very nice fishsoop. Our accommodation in luxurious holiday-houses was a big contrast to our life in Céüse. It wasn’t easy to get up so early to compete.

I live in Pelvoux, a small ski resort in the national park of Les Ecrins, in France, near La Grave, a beautiful spot for freeride and mountaineering. I started pretty young with skiing competitions and got into the FIS circuit for few years. Today I am working as an independent ski, snowboard and telemark instructor in Verbier, Switzerland. My passion for skiing and telemarking got me to participate to some great competitions like the "derby de la Meije" which I won 4 times on telemark. During the summer

I have recently had a flurry of request for winter guiding, and at first i was a little hesitant to reply, after all on paper I have no official qualification, however I have written pieces before highlighting the fact that you don't need a qualification to guide in the UK. Why? Well the Health and Safety Executive recognises four ways to show competence: 1. Formal Qualification, 2. Experience 3. In House Training 4. Equivalent Qualification As such after thinking a little about my experience of taking
