Last Friday, the Maxi Banque Populaire V sailing ship completed a circumnavigation of the globe and set a new speed record in the process . The ship, which featured a British captain and a mostly French crew, beat the previous speed record by nearly three days, and claimed the Jules Verne Trophy in the process. Last week I posted a final update on Dave Cornthwaite's 2400-mile expedition to stand-up paddle the entire length of the Mississippi River, just as the adventurous Brit neared his finish in the Gulf of Mexico. The day after I wrote that piece, Dave did indeed complete his journey, and now he's home in the U.K. resting up and preparing for his next big adventure.
