from Guy Steven - Mountain Leader
This weekend John , Dave , Tim and I all headed over to the Peak district for a spot of bouldering and sending some routes. We arrived at Ramshaw first and soloed several routes to get warmed up. Loaf and Cheese (VS 4c), Wall and Groove (VD), The Arete (S 4a) and Leeds Crack (D). We then went down to the main event. Everyone wanted to try Tierdrop (E5 6b). Its a classic mirco route which is usually climbed with pads and spotters which is exactly what we did. Quite a high ball problem but safe with a big

Way back in March I told you about the Put Foot Rally , a driving adventure that sent teams on a 17-day, 7000km (4350 mile) journey through seven countries in Africa. The rally was designed to not only operate as a fundraiser for the Bobs For Good Foundation , an organization that delivers new shoes to underprivileged children, but also demonstrate that Africa is a safe and wondrous place to travel. The inaugural Put Foot took place between June 21st and July 7 of this year, and was a huge success. So much

Earlier in the week we had reports of several successful summits on Broad Peak, despite the weather there not being the most advantageous for climbing. A few days later we also get word of tragedy on that mountain, as one of the climbers fell to his death while descending. Climber Rob Springer , who is part of the Field Touring Alpine squad, posted news of the accident on his blog today. Rob is on BP to acclimatize before jumping over to K2, which is his ultimate goal this summer in the Karakoram. He ...

We have two other teams having a great time in the field... 5/30 West Buttress Team - Russell Hunter Alex Stroud: This team has been camped at 11,000 feet, happily acclimatizing and staying out of the wind and weather. Today they will be carrying gear up and around Windy Corner, in preparation for their move to the 14,200 foot camp - also called Basin Camp. It can take two or three days to make this move, which needs to be done when the weather conditions are suitable. There are usually many teams camped

Alaska. Anchorage local Clint Helander and his partner Scotty Vincik took advantage of near perfect late winter conditions to claim the first ascent of Mt. Mausolus (9,170 ft) in Alaska's Revelation Mountains. Located in the southwest corner of the Alaska Range, the Revelations are a somewhat obscure pocket of steep granite peaks. Helander first heard of the Revelations in 2006 and had been dreaming of them ever since. In 2007, after receiveing the American Alpine Club's Mountain Fellowship Grant, Helander

It has been about a week and a half since we last checked in on Alan Arnette . At that time he was in Argentina, where he was preparing for the trek to Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America, and next on his Seven Summits hit list . Since that time, he has not only arrived on the mountain, but has been working hard to help shuttle gear to the high camps in preparation for the summit push. Yesterday, he and the rest of the team were in Camp 2, located at 18,000 feet (5486 meters), with plans to move

A black bear ran though the AMS headquarters this morning and the guides chased it off using what happened to be in their hands at the time: paddles and pickets. Watch out for this group! A few bears have been seen in the downtown area over the last couple of weeks. Make sure all of your garbage and dogfood is put away in a safe and secure place.
